Matter is a physical substance in general, as distinct from mind and spirit; (in physics) that which occupies space and possesses rest mass, especially as distinct from energy.
A pure substance is a sample of matter with both definite and constant composition with distinct chemical properties. There are two types of matter! There is pure substance and mixtures. First lets talk about Pure Substances. There are two types of Pure Substances: Element and Compound.
One of them is Element. An element is a substance made from only one type of atom.
Some examples of an element are Sodium, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Oxygen.
The other type of pure substance is compound. Compound is a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture.
These are examples of compounds. Carbon Dioxide, Common salt, and Hydrogen Chloride.
The other type of matter is Mixture. A mixture is a combination of two or more pure substances in which each pure substance retains its individual chemical properties.
There are two types of Mixtures: there are Homogeneous and Heterogeneous mixtures. First I am going to talk about Homogeneous. Homogeneous is a mixture which has uniform composition and properties throughout.
One type of homogeneous mixture is solution. A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances.
The other type of mixture is heterogeneous mixture. A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture having a non-uniform composition.
There are two types of heterogeneous mixtures. There is suspension and colloid. First lets talk about suspension. Suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve but get suspended throughout the bulk of the medium
