Almuñécar & Sierra Nevada Week 6 - Spain 2022

Back in Almuñécar - Spain 2022 - Week - 6

Our trip back to Almuñécar including a fuel and a coffee break was once again via Granada and not Almeria as the trip up to Valencia. We got back to the villa in good time, off-loaded the car and then went to collect our other items from Gordon’s house. Calum had arrived and he very kindly gave us a hand in loading the car. When we got home we unpacked yet again and got things organised.

Tuesday was another sunny and warm day. Supermarket shopping first thing and after I washed the car while Ann did numerous clothes’ washes. We had lunch sitting in the sun and Ann did a bit of sun bathing after lunch and I watched The Tour of the Alps Cycling on the TV.

The weather changed to cloudy, wet and windy and not that warm. Unfortunately I caught a bug similar to what Ann had earlier and was not feeling at all well so Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were all bit of a wash out. We did however manage to walk into town on the Thursday morning for a little shop and on Friday for a longer walk along the coast. Ann has continued to do her daily exercises putting me to shame, as all I really felt like doing was lying down and watching the cycling on TV.

I felt better on Saturday morning, so we decided to go for a drive into the Sierra Nevada range. We drove past some lovely villages including Órgiva, Pampaneira, Pórtugos, Busquístar and Trevélez. For the main, the roads while being windy, were of good quality although it got rather narrow after Busquístar and towards Trevélez.

The beautiful village of Pampaneira

It was a very enjoyable drive with beautiful scenery around every bend. We stopped at Pampaneira where we walked about. Fascinating place with very narrow streets and one needed to be a bit of a mountain goat to get around. The little streets had troughs for rain water to come down in, rather than the rain going into the little houses. Albeit cold, windy but sunny, many people were sitting in the square drinking and eating.

We had a couple of stops for a coffee and a sandwich enjoying the views.

Sunday was another sunny day and as I was feeling little better decided to go for a short cycle ride along the coast. Lovely to be out in the sun in cycling shorts with very little wind for a change. Ann had another session of exercises and we spent time lazing in the sun for the rest of the day. That was Ann of course, while I cleaned my bike and golf clubs and watched both the Women’s and Men’s version of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège Monument.
