UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Lady Lions trimmed a 23-point fourth-quarter deficit, but ultimately fell 77-66 to No. 18/19 Iowa Thursday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Kamaria McDaniel led Penn State with 19 points, while Makenna Marisa added 10.

MEET THE LADY LIONS

HEAD COACH CAROLYN KIEGER

  • Carolyn Kieger was hired as the sixth head coach of the Lady Lions' basketball program on April 3, 2019.
  • A 2019 Naismith Women's Coach of the Year Award semifinalist, Kieger guided Marquette to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2017-19).
  • Kieger owns a 106-80 overall record, including a school-best 27-8 mark last season that included the Golden Eagles' first-ever outright Big East regular season title.
  • She coached nine All-Big East selections the past three seasons, including the past two Big East Players of the Year, Allazia Blockton (2017-18) and Natisha Hiedeman (2018-19).
  • Prior to her tenture at Marquette, Kieger spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Miami (Fla.)
  • A four-year starter at Marquette from 2002-06, Kieger is the Golden Eagles' all-time assists leader and the only player in program history with at least 1,200 career points, 400 rebounds and 600 assists.

Freshman Guard

  • In her first year in Happy Valley, Marisa is averaging 9.6 points and has tallied 57 assists, second on the team.
  • Marisa scored in double figures in 10 games, including a season-high 17 points against Northwestern.
  • Named Pennsylvania 6A Player of the Year after leading Peters Township to a state title and perfect 30-0 record

BRYCE JORDAN CENTER

The Bryce Jordan Center, one of the premier collegiate basketball facilities in the nation, is the home of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Located on Curtin Road adjacent to Beaver Stadium, the spacious arena has a seating capacity of 15,154 for basketball and 16,000 for other events. The Jordan Center has a variety of uses, including athletic competitions, commencements and other academic events, trade shows, popular music concerts, artistic and cultural performances and family events. The Bryce Jordan Center is the largest arena in the state outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
