CCY CONNECT NOVEMBER 2022 EDITION

John Miller

I’ve had several people as of late ask me what our plans are this year for Christmas Missions Love Offering which we take up each year on the first Sunday of December.

Before I share our plans for 2022 let me refresh your memory. Last year we received over $40,000 which we evenly divided with our missionaries in India, Thailand, Burma, and the Philippines. That money was then used to buy food as their need was so great and our gifts were greatly appreciated!

Food

So how about our 2022 offering? Well, a couple of months ago as I was visiting with our missionary to Burma, Jerry Thaprom, he shared with me that there was a great need to build a church building for a group of believers in Shwebyda, Burma. This is a suburban community of their capital city Yangoon.

This church began by meeting in a 10ft x 10ft room with just a few people in attendance. God has been so good and the Holy Spirit has been convicting the hearts of many Buddhists who have come to accept Jesus as the Lord and Savior. They now have over 100 folks coming together to Worship! In my mind that is absolutely amazing! God is to be praised!!

Church meeting in a small room

I met with our Shepherds and presented this need to them and they were 100% in support of us taking on the goal of raising $35,000 to build a church building in Shwebyda, Burma.

So I ask you to begin praying about your sacrificial gift which will be received on Sunday, December 4 during our Sunday morning worship service.

Believe it or not but we've already received over $12,000 so our offering goal will be $23,000. Sacrificially together we can meet this goal and bless the lives of many many people who we will never meet this side of heaven, but will be forever our brothers and sisters in Jesus.

I’m in… will you join me?

Thanksgiving is much more than a holiday. It should be our attitude every day. Throughout his life on earth, Jesus demonstrates thankfulness. While others reject him and do not repent (Matthew 11:25-30), when he cares for others in need (John 6:10-13), when he grieves the loss of a close friend (John 11:40-44), and even in the face of persecution and death (Luke 22:17-19), Jesus is thankful to his Father in Heaven. Jesus knows his Father can be trusted, and he remains thankful in all things. Paul captures this attitude of gratitude when he says,

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

It is so important to me to help the children grow and learn how to have a relationship with Jesus. Each week in Sunday school we share prayer requests and praises then the kids take turns praying. On Wednesday nights before we dismiss class the kids take about 3 minutes to have prayer time. During this time everyone goes and sits somewhere in the room to have one on one time with God while a worship song plays in the background. When we first started this the kids did not know what they could possibly talk to God about for that long, especially if they didn’t know anyone who needed prayer that week. I heard a to of “I don’t have anything to pray for”. We quickly decided that we ALWAYS have something to thank God for and therefore we always had things to talk to God about. Over the last few years, the kids have grown to enjoy prayer time and even ask when we would have it. There is something so wonderful about witnessing a group of young children talking to their Lord and Savior.

Psalm 9:1

As we enter a season where we talk so much about being thankful I want to challenge you to pray with your children and thank God for all he has blessed you and your family with. Even when things aren’t going how we plan we can find something to thank God for.

ACTS: 20:35

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

This opportunity is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Shoeboxes and corresponding material may be picked up at the Operation Christmas Child table in the Gathering area at CCY to take home to fill with suggested items. We started with 112 boxes, we have 34 left for anyone who has not had the opportunity to claim one yet. Filled boxes are due back to CCY by Sunday, November 13th, 2022.

THANKSGIVING BAGS

Brown paper bags with a suggested list of groceries will be available at CCY for pickup. Fill the bags with Thanksgiving groceries and return them to CCY by Sunday before Thanksgiving. The philosophy is if you are in need, take a bag and enjoy the blessing of a Thanksgiving meal. Any remaining bags will be donated to those in need.

CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA

We are five weeks away from the CCY annual Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, Dec 3rd and our Toy Drive is in full swing! We are collecting new and like new toys and gifts for the Extravaganza. You are welcome to bring the toys and put them in the roped-off section in the Gathering area. Donations needed include new and gently used toys for children of all ages as well as small gifts for parents. The philosophy is to allow parents to come and shop for clothes and Christmas gifts for their children while the children have an opportunity to shop for a gift for their parents. Volunteer opportunities are available in all areas - please sign up today!

ANGEL TREE

The Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of those families in need in our congregation through the support of donors. The tree will be out in the Gathering area in mid-November. Gifts should be returned unwrapped to the church for distribution.

SPECIAL OFFERING

A Special Offering (outside the regular general offering) will be collected on Sunday, December 4th, 2022. These funds will be collected for one of our ministry endeavors, usually involving overseas missions that are in a third-world country. Our goal this year is to raise $35,000 to build a church building in Shwebyda, Burma.

THANK YOU!

Veterans Day is a public holiday that is dedicated to honoring anyone who has served in the United States military. The holiday began as a day to remember the end of World War I and was declared a holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Originally known as Armistice Day, the holiday became Veterans Day in 1954. It is always officially observed on November 11th.

As a Church, we want to be sure to express our appreciation to all the Veterans. The price of freedom is very high. Many have paid the ultimate price on behalf of their nation, yet we realize there is also the price of saying “good-bye” to a spouse, or fiancé, or even looking into the big round eyes of a child as the plane or ship is about to board with Dads and Moms heading off to serve.

Rest assured…you are appreciated.

On behalf of a grateful church, we want to say “Thank You”.
