Acrylic, Mixed Media
I am a visual artist who paints intuitively as a method of expression. The act of creating art is often described as a dialogue involving a conversation between the artist and the work. The painting often speaks to the artist what it needs, essentially becoming a voice that may influence its direction. My colourful and fluid abstract paintings represent a fascination with the chaos in one's life, no matter how carefully planned. Working with acrylic paint and ink on canvas or paper I allow the paint/ink to 'do its own thing' layer upon layer, creating organic forms. The intuitive, bold, and energetic paintings are a synergistic process of letting go, then transforming the spontaneous gestural abstractions into images of significance. I love the compelling process of bringing the uninhibited, undefined, and indescribable, into physical form.
I intuitively create colourful fluid acrylic paintings that are symbolic of embracing chaos.
I received my BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and my MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, California. As a way to engage with my art community, I have volunteered as Vice President, Board of Directors at the Seymour Art Gallery, North Vancouver, BC and on the Board of Directors for the Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver as Chair, Artist Prize. My artwork has been shown and collected in Canada, USA, and Europe. I live and work in North Vancouver, BC, Canada.
