Step 1. Run EASYTERM and Connect to the nearest PAREDN Gateway BBS. Make sure you are on the correct frequency and available PACKET Speed (1200bps or 4800bps).
Step 2. Click Connect. Upon connection, you will see the BBS prompt. You can try to type HELP and Enter. This will give you the Help files.
Step 3. Read the Help Files. The letters preceding the dash sign is the command to use for each. Example, if you want to get the list of mails (Personal mail or Bulletins) available to you, you can type (L) and then Enter. If you only want to see the list of Bulletins, you can type (LB). If you want to set your QTH, you can type Q YOURQTH).
Step 4. Often times the number of Bulletins is so many and just using the L command will take a long time before the Prompt returns. It will help if you use the OP N command, example in order for the Prompt to return every 20 mails or bulletins, use the command OP 20 and then enter.
Step 5. Now it's time to learn how to Send a Packet Mail using EasyTerm. To send a Personal Packet mail to another Packet Station. Use the Command (SP Callsign@H-Address), example I want to send a Personal Packet Mail to DW3GSZ. I will use the command (SP DW3GSZ@DU3FS.CEL.LUZ.PHL.ASIA).
Step 5. Upon sending the command the BBS will then Prompt the user to Enter Title. Example, (Sending a Packet Mail). Then the BBS will Prompt the user to (Enter Message Text, and end it by typing /ex).
Step 6. How about sending a Bulletin to everyone using the BBSs on the PAREDN Network. On the Prompt, Type (SB ALL@PHL). You will be Prompt to (Enter Title). Example (Testing Bulletin Function). Then you will be Prompt to (Enter Message Text) again end your message with (/ex).
Step 6. Go ahead and run a number of Test Messages or Bulletins. Try the different commands. This may be your first try on Packet Radio or you have done this a long time ago but forgot about it. The most important thing is Enjoy doing it!
