Welcome to the library hub!
Learning how to use different parts of the library can be a bit confusing, even more so when it is online! That's why we have put together a virtual library orientation to help you learn the basics of accessing and using some of the services provided to you.
but what is the library hub?
The Library Hub provides a single point of access to online resources for members of the University of Divinity. It gives you access to an extensive range of databases, eJournals, eBooks and a wealth of other library-related information. It is an online one-stop shop for all things “library”, providing links to many useful tools and resources, including academic resources, library special collections, FAQs, and a range of general and subject-based LibGuides.

The single search bar is comparable to the Google search engine in that it searches across the entire University of Divinity libraries' collections. All students, staff and other members of the University are entitled to access these print and electronic resources and borrow from these libraries.
When you are prompted to log-in, use your ARK credentials when accessing content off campus.
How to search for Books & eBooks
When you use enter a search on the Library Hub home page you are simultaneously searching the catalogues of most University of Divinity Libraries and eBooks available via the Library Hub.
- Type in any combination of author, title, publisher, dates and subjects may be used as part of the search.
- Use inverted commas if you want to search for a particular phrase, e.g. “Christian meditation”. Be sure to use the filters on the left to refine your search!
- To limit your search to finding e-Books, select University of Divinity Libraries and choose e-Books from the format list.
- To limit your search to finding a print book, select the library/libraries you wish to borrow from and select print book from the format list.
How to locate a book
Trying to find a book on the shelf can be a little tricky if you aren't fluent in the Dewey Decimal System. That is why we have made it easy for you to view the physical location of the book on our catalogue. Beneath the title and summary, you will see the library, the shelving location, the call number and the availability. Note, if that particular copy is not available, be sure to check if there are more copies available. If it is available as an eBook, a large red button will appear below the title.
If you are in the library and you have a good memory, you can head straight to the shelves or you can tell a library staff member and they will help you locate the item in no time!
How to place an item on hold
To place an item on hold, click on the item and a place hold button will appear to the right of the title.
You will be prompted to sign into your library account. If you have not signed in before, you must set up a password. To do this, simply click set/reset password and enter your student number (barcode). You will receive an email asking you to setup a new password. If your library is not included here, contact your librarian to place a hold for you.
Fill out the Place Hold Request form being sure to choose which library you wish to pick up from and any information librarians might need to know about your request (i.e. a specific date, a specific volume etc.). If your library branch is not an option to pick up from, check that your library has a copy available and then contact your college's library.
How to find an article
Finding an article is similar to finding a book. In the Library Hub search bar, type in any combination of author, title, publisher, dates and subjects may be used as part of the search. Use inverted commas if you want to search for a particular phrase, e.g. “Christian meditation”.
FILTERS
Under Held by libraries select Libraries Worldwide. Under Format, select Article, Chapter. Under Content Type, select Full Text.
NOTE: Taking these steps will search across all the databases available to the University of Divinity excluding ATLA (EBSCO Host). If you wish to search the ATLA Database, click the button at the bottom right of the screen.

How to Renew a book
If you have received an email reminding you that you need to return or renew your books you have three options: return your books to the library, ask your librarian nicely to renew them OR you can renew them yourself via your online library account. Watch the short video below to learn how.

Citation
- Style Guide - The referencing style observed by the University of Divinity is based on the latest version of the Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed. 2017).
- EndNote 20 - EndNote is a reference management software tool, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays and articles.
Resources
- List of LibGuides - LibGuides are designed to direct you to useful resources related to your particular subject area making them a useful starting point for your research and study. They have been made with the hope that they will assist you in both basic and advanced research. Check the list regularly to see if a LibGuide for your subject area has been created/updated.
- Lean Library - Lean Library is a browser extension that delivers full-text content to you, regardless of where you are linking from, and without the need to visit the Library Hub website first.
- A - Z List of Databases - Databases house a collection of information that can be used for your research and writing. Take a look at the list to see which databases the University of Divinity subscribes to.
- Course Reserves is where you’ll find all the essential and recommended readings set by your unit coordinators.
- Unit Management System (UMS) - UMS allows students and staff to view the diverse range of units available and their respective recommended readings across the University and its Colleges.
