Week 4 - Term 2b Feelings, emotions and kindNess.

Did you know that Giraffes Can’t Dance? Gerald the Giraffe couldn’t at the start of the story, but with the help of his friends he was happy by the end of the story. We made an emotions graph to show his feelings at different points of the story. We also drew our favourite part.
In maths we have been extending our knowledge of 9 and 10, using the part whole model. We used small world counters to physically move to work out which 2 numbers we could add together to make 10. Ini and Hugo developed their knowledge even further, beginning to understand that we can add in any order, as well as ‘what else do we know’ by writing maths stories using our prior knowledge.
We came back into class and there was an incident. We had to look for clues as well as listen to different sounds. There were lots of animals around the room, crates, car tyres and a steering wheel. We could also hear the sound of a car horn and some police sirens. We put all these clues together and realised that there had been an accident. The lorry to the zoo had crashed, and all the animals were muddled up. Our job was to draw what we could see, and set about returning the animals to the correct crates and habitats. Watch this space to see what happens next!

Faith drew a set of instructions that the basket ballers could follow. She explained the method clearly and explained that it was a continuous game and they could repeat the actions.

Applying our maths, number bonds to 9 and 10. Some of us were able to know the commutative law to some number pairs.

We also used shapes as targets for the maths games.

The ‘Jungle Boogie’ - waltzing, the tango and rock and rollers all emerged to help Gerald with his dancing. There was some great break dancing as well - some of us were extremely dizzy!

Boogie Wonderland!

They had to show their appreciation and try different styles of dances.

Movers and shakers.

Working collaboratively with a partner moving in different ways for different music types they could hear.

Greta reasoning and explaining in maths, working to make 10, using the part whole model. We are really confident at predicting, using the counters to make sure and then checking with accurate 1:1 correspondence. .
Zakariya explained very clearly what Ramadan meant to him and his family. He explained that his house was beautifully decorated with glowing moons, he also said that his mum and dad made delicious food at night when the sun goes down. Thank you.
