SMAC's Home MEET Feb 4/5 2017

SMAC athletes had a blast racing one another this past weekend out at the Waynesville Rec Center. For Little SMACers and Big SMACers, this was an ideal opportunity to put some times on the board and have some breakthroughs. The meet was the first two day competition for many, one which provided athletes with the opportunity to swim many races they've never swum before. Senior SMACers crushed the 200 Fly while may Little and Big SMACers raced in the 200 IM, 200 FR, 100 BR or 100 Fly for the first time. The team showed up, swam hard and dropped tons of time. Everyone's hard work is paying off. Athletes of all ages put nerves aside and were comfortable in the relaxed meet environment.

Get ready to race!

Serious talk.

Relay time!

Saturday morning started with many fast swims. All athletes left with races of which they could be proud. In every event, male and female, there was at least 3-4 people with an outstanding drop. Time drops are the name of the game at these types of meets, and boy did we have a lot of them! Naveah Hourani's :25 second cut in her 200 FR was no exception. Asber Cosme's :60 second drop in his 25 Free is the largest drop of the season!! Congrats Asber! Stephen Wenzel capped off the session with a solo 400 IM - dropping nearly :20 seconds!

THERE WERE SO MANY DROPS. Too many to name them all. Check out the list below!

Sunday, the team was even more comfortable, even more ready to rock, and swam even faster than they did on Saturday. Zack Lyle's 200 BK was the 5th fastest 10 and Under 200 BK in the STATE this season. His 200 Fly on Saturday was the 3rd fastest. Caroline Bonomo showed up Sunday ready to crush it and she brought the pain in her 100 FR, cutting nearly :12 seconds. Megan Planchock had a pretty sweet 9.2 second cut in her 200 IM while Ximena Martinez' 10 second drop in her 50 Breaststroke was fantastic. These are just a few of the incredible swims we had this past weekend.

Fantastic job SMACers!

NEXT MEET

March 24-26 Tarheel States

TARHEEL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Parents and athletes, the registration deadline for Tarheel States is fast approaching This meet is open to all athletes. We would like to take 40 athletes to this meet! It would be wonderful to have a crew of athletes at both sessions to cap off what has been an exciting, super-fast Course Season. Here are some common questions about the meet:

I'm not sure if my child is ready. It's the coach's job to make that determination. If you have a question about your athlete's preparedness, speak with Coach Charlie or Coach Scott. Your child is ready to race at Tarheel Champs.

The meet is far. Agreed. However, wouldn't it be sweet to compete against like competition at a pool in which world records were set and one in which Olympians have raced?! Traveling to a meet with friends and excelling at something as part of a big team is a truly unique and rewarding experience.

What time will it start? What are the details? You can find those on the Events Page of our website.

GET SIGNED UP! We would love to take a giant crowd of 40 SMACers to the meet. If the results from the season are any indication, The team will go fast and kick some serious butt.
