Listen attentively to what the other side is saying (don't come up with an answer while they're speaking).

Never discuss the matter when angry (don't react). Always 'cool off', even if the other party insists that 'now' is the best time to have the conversation. Only respond when you feel ready.

Try to see the other person's perspective.

Be specific in communicating how you feel and what your needs are.

Don't jump to conclusions before ascertaining as much of the facts as you can.

Remember that conflict itself isn't a bad thing. It can be quite helpful. It's how we deal with it that makes it constructive or destructive.
