There have been lots of examples of children being kind to each other this week. Here are a few that we would like to share:

  • Gareth for sharing with Amelie.
  • Ameila for being kind to her friend when he was sad.
  • Gaja for helping to free his friend who was stuck in a tyre.
  • Miesha and Abigail for making good choices.
  • Harvey C for tidying up without being asked.
  • Nicole for helping Ethan G, Dylan and Jamie with their Welsh.
  • Luke for tidying up others people's mess before afternoon break.
  • Lily, Niamh, Clinton, Razey and Tomas B for working hard to make improvements to their volcano explanations plans using the success criteria.
Safe

It has been an unusual week in Year 5 and 6! We have been thinking about all the children who have been ill at home and are looking forward to seeing everyone back soon. Those who have been in school have kept going admirably and worked very hard. We were fortunate to be joined by PC Ellis at the beginning of the week who reminded us of keeping safe and the dangers of drugs. There are activities and information for children here and for parents here. You can also see photographs of the visit by following this link. https://www.mineraprimary.com/year-5-year-6/

Valued

We value our children's ideas, opinions and creativity. Today we celebrated all of the children who made it into the Golden Book this week.

These children are celebrating their birthdays' during the month of February! Happy Birthday to :

  • Ameila
  • Oliver
  • Zoscha
  • Clinton
  • Oumil
  • Harvey

Covid-19 Update

Unfortunately, again this week we have had several positive Covid cases in school. We will continue to be cautious with the highest level of Covid measures in place to keep everyone safe.

We ask that you look out for the following three key symptoms of COVID-19 in your child:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • loss or change to their sense of smell or taste

If your child has any of these three key symptoms, please do not send your child to school and arrange a PCR test for them immediately. You can book a PCR test online through the NHS website at gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119. Anyone else in your household with any of these three key symptoms should also isolate and take a PCR test.

Children under 5 do not need to take a PCR or a LFT, even if they have COVID-19 symptoms. They can take a test if a doctor advises it, or if a parent believes a test is absolutely necessary and in the best interests of a child.

We do have a stock of LFT kits in school of any parents want us to send them home with your child, please email school.

Please inform school if your child has any symptoms or tests positive with a lateral flow or PCR test and at the end of the isolation period of two negative tests before your child returns to school.

Thank you to everyone for following our Covid rules and working hard to keep our school community safe and well.

Sickness

We have had a small number of children with vomiting and diarrhoea in school this week. I would like to remind everyone that Public Health Wales recommends that children stay away from school for 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.

Parking

Please can everyone when dropping off or collecting children be mindful of parking. The areas outside of school is very busy at these times and everyone's safety is paramount.

Please do not park in the following areas:

  • School car park - this is for staff only even during Breakfast Club and After School Club.
  • Pavements outside of school - this blocks access for pedestrians and prams
  • Outside the Nursery gate on the bend of the road - this is a dangerous place to park as it causes an obstruction for motorists.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this very important matter.

End of the Day

At the end of the day, please can all parents and guardians ensure that whilst waiting on the school yard ensure younger children who have already been collected are supervised. A number of younger children are running round the school yard, climbing walls and running down steps unsupervised.

The safety of everyone is really important and accidents can easily happen.
