ABOUT ME
My name is Angel Parajes. I am a psychology student at California State University, Fullerton gaining research experience on topics such as goal prediction and multicultural issues. On top of being a full-time college student, I also work part-time at the Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers on campus as a Programming and Activities Lead. My position includes advancing their goals of reaching students on campus about the resources and programs that our center offers. I do this by utilizing social media to reach students that may find our services useful and by creating my own social media programs that explores diversity representation in media and food cultures that are influential in the United States. I received my Associates for Transfer in Psychology and an Associates in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Mount San Antonio College prior to transferring into California State University, Fullerton. My goal is to obtain my Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Psychology in the Spring of 2022 and pursue independent research under the mentorship of Dr. Trevor Basil.
The Prospectus and Annotated Bibliography assignment allowed me to have a voice on the topic I was passionate about. Fulfilling the SLOs of Ethical Research and Academic Language, I was able to write about my claims and findings in a formal way, unlike how I would in an everyday setting. Through exploring Anti-Blackness in the Asian American Community in an academic light, it empowered me to utilize my research in my personal ventures in advocating for social change.
The Editorial assignment was by far, the most enriching writing assignment in the entirety of my undergraduate studies. In considering possible counter arguments to my original claims, I became more well-rounded on the subject of anti-blackness in Asian cultures and the influences to their attitudes in America. Through the SLO of Ethical Research, I realize that acknowledging and understanding the other side of the coin is essential in pursuits to make stronger arguments and leave lasting impressions.
