The following is a spotlight profile on Sierra Lange, one of two George Washington University nominees for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award. The Atlantic 10 institutions nominated a total of 14 outstanding student-athletes for the award (READ MORE). The A-10 will profile each of the institutional nominees.

PROFILE

One of the most decorated Atlantic 10 softball players in recent history, Sierra Lange is a two-time A-10 Pitcher of the Year, a three-time All-Conference selection, a two-time All-Championship Team honoree, the 2021 Championship Most Outstanding Player and a four-time A-10 Champion. She was also Third-team All-American in 2022 and a three-time All-Region First Team member and was named to the 2018 A-10 All-Rookie squad as a freshman. From 2016-2019, Lange also participated in international competition representing Team Philippines in nine different events. A four-time GW Athletic Dean's List and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, she was also honored as softball All-Academic twice. Very active in the GW community, Lange worked with the Nashman Center for Civic and Public Service, participated in the MLK Day of Service, the Wlecome Day of Service and the GW Day of Excellence. She also represented the softball team at GW's Leadership Academy. An avid volunteer, Lange donated her time to Martha's Table, Little Friends for Peace, KEEN Greater DC, GW's The Store, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, Boo at the Zoo, Colonial Harvest, Back on my Feet Shoe Drive and the Navy Half Marathon.

Q: What are the top three things on your bucket list?

Q: What is one thing you would go back and do differently?

Ask my mom to teach me Tagalog (filipino) when I was younger

Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration?

My brother

Q: What do you think is the most important issue for student athletes today?

Mental health

Q: Something you learned about yourself during COVID?

Enjoying the small things in life and being aware/grateful for blessing through difficult times.

Q: What was your favorite class and professor, why?

Favorite Class: Politics and Film because I love movies and it made me watch films differently by focusing on varying aspects of cinematography. It also gave me a chance to like movies that I thought I would never watch such as Hamilton!

Favorite Professor: Professor Koplovsky, he led discussions really well and challenged our brains to think more critically. Pushed me to participate in class.

Q: What is an accomplishment you are most proud of?

Proud of being consistently successful in academics and sport while also maintaining a balanced social life.
