Concession Sales Do More Than You Know An inside look on the effect of concession sales at sporting events at worthington kilbourne high school

Every season, at Worthington Kilbourne Highschool, sporting events and athletic programs are powered by concession sales.

Concession sales at all sporting events fundraise money for all organizations that volunteer for the concession stand. Wolves Inc. is responsible for organizing the concession stands. Wolves Inc. purchases all of the products in bulk, they then mark everything for purchase, and proceed to grant a percentage of the profits that night to the program that volunteered and sold the products.

Chauncey Hilson, the Assistant Athletic Director; explained that “The coaches ultimately will get to use the money in whatever way they find necessary for their program; it does not have to be anything specific it could be new equipment, it could be new uniforms, it could be a couple different options.”

So many athletes at WKHS underestimate the diligence behind the endowment of finance that goes into athletic programs, yet so much money comes from concession sales.

“The Thomas Worthington football game made 14,000 dollars.” Stated Sarah Jacobs, the Athletic Office Secretary.

Deeper than the effect the money has on WKHS athletics, coaches and volunteers understand that having food available at sporting events provides the opportunity for a meal.

“The other side of it though is that we are providing a service to people attending the games especially if they are coming to a lacrosse game, some of them may be coming from work or some other events where the have not had the chance to get something to eat at home, so it provides them an opportunity to do that,” Doug Troutner, Head Girls Lacrosse Coach explained.

The ability to give back to attendees and to functionally produce profit categorizes the concession stand as an important role at WKHS. Not only does the concession stand fund raise but it also supports those in need of a bite to eat.
