Summer Band is Here!!!!!

We hope everyone has had a wonder and restful summer. It is now time to begin our "Road to Grand Nationals" training and we are so excited! Summer Band officially begins this Wednesday, July 20th. Please see the following calendars for a postable version.

Woodwind, Brass & Percussion Student Schedule - Summer Band 2022

Color Guard Student Schedule - Summer Band 2022

Please note that times/locations may change based on weather or facility availability. Any changes will be conveyed to the students in-person and updated on the Official PHS Band Google Calendar.

The Texas Heat

The Texas heat is at it again. With the record heat wave that we are currently experiencing, we are making adjustments to the previous schedule sent out in late April to help provide as much protection to our students, volunteer parents and staff as possible.

You may see slight adjustments to the times of our rehearsals from week to week. As much as we would like to sleep in and go to bed early, the morning and evening are prime opportunities for us to practice outdoors when relief from that orb in the sky is at its highest.

You will see that all rehearsals begin at 7:30am, but our release time may vary depending on the heat level each day. Students are welcome to stay in the bandhall during this break period or may go home in between breaks, IF their break is longer than an hour. An hour or less is just not enough time for students to safely travel anywhere without being rushed. Students that are staying in the bandhall should plan on bringing a sack lunch with them to the morning rehearsal.

Afternoon rehearsal times may vary from day to day depending on what facility we have available to us. Finding rehearsal space indoors for 300 students can be quite a challenge, especially when other PHS teachers are coming back to school from the summer break. Any changes in the schedule will be relayed to the students in-person and updated on the official PHS Band Google Calendar.

During outdoor rehearsals we will be taking many small water breaks to keep students hydrated. It is important that each student brings a MINIMUM of a half gallon water jug full of water with them TO ALL REHEARSALS. Students that do not bring the appropriate amount of water will be sent home from rehearsal until they return with an appropriate amount. Students may refill their water jugs throughout the day in the Fine Arts teacher lounge, where there is a sink and ice machine.

The National Federation of State High School Associations has put out an excellent handout containing helpful information as it pertains to appropriate hydration. Click here to view it.

While the staff and directors are on the lookout for any signs of dehydration and are conscience of the weather during rehearsals, it is the student's responsibility to make sure they take all steps to properly hydrate before, during and after rehearsals. It is also important that they listen to their body and notify a director, staff or student leader immediately if they begin feeling signs of dehydration.

Proper hydration, alternating between water and an electrolyte replacement drink (i.e. Gatorade, Powerade, etc), along with a healthful and calorific diet will help our students have a successful and safe Fall Marching Band Season!

Police Training Session

We have been made aware that the PISD Police Department will be training at Prosper High School beginning Tuesday, July 19th through Thursday, July 21st as announced by PISD earlier this week. It is imperative that all PHS Band students and parents follow the instructions below:

  • Students are to be dropped off/park in the North Parking Lot nearest to the cafeteria.
  • The two lane emergency lane that leads to the back of the auditorium/band hall will be blocked off. You should plan on entering the school parking lot from the south east entrance off of Eagle Drive (nearest to the turf field). The frontier entrance is blocked off currently by construction.
  • Once in the building, NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE MAIN HALLWAY. All students must stay in the bandhall or fine arts wing. Restrooms will be unlocked and available.
