The Flock: winged mutant kids(98% human, 2% bird), protagonists
Max-main character of the book and leader of the flock, strong, independent, and aggressive.
Fang-member of the flock, dark and mysterious, learns flying tactics from studying the movement of hawks, Max's second in command.
Angel- able to read minds, youngest member, sweet and kind. She and the Gasman are the only blood relatives of the flock. She used her mind telepathic powers to convince a women to buy her a 50 dollar toy bear at FAO Schwarz.
Iggy-blind member of the flock, expert on cracking locks and bombs.
Nudge- talkative, smart, and wants to be normal.
The Gasman(Gazzy)- explosives expert, has digestive problems(hence the name)
Total- Angel's dog, rescued from the Institute's lab(minor character in this book)
Antagonists
Jeb- saves the flock from the School, but later betrays them.
Ari- Wolf/Human mutant, Hates Max, because he thinks his father Jeb loves her more. Also has a hatred for Fang.

The setting mostly takes place in New York, California, where the school is, and Colorado. The time is 2005.

Theme
The theme of this story is to be brave no matter what happens. An example of this is when Angel was kidnapped, Max stood tough through and through, or at least tried to.

Text to world: In the book, Max and the flock have to face enemies from all around. In our world, everyone has enemies, big or small.
Text to self: When Max was shot, she had to risk people knowing about her wings and get help from people, and also overcome her fear. I had to take risks in my life, and have also had to overcome my fears.
Text to text:In this book, the flock are runaway most the book. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the main characters(Harry, Ron, Hermione) and runaway most the book.
Final Thoughts/Recommending
This book was a fantastic read by James Patterson. It has action, adventure, mystery, the occasional comedy, and science fiction all together. It is definitely a book worth reading, and it has many morals in it. I find it interesting that the author also wrote a warning about our future, if we do not change the world now. I highly recommend this book for people who enjoy a good mystery and adventure, and can take mild violence/language.
