Student Created Black History Month Museum Now Open at Dolores Huerta
Dolores Huerta Elementary School, through its African American Heritage Student Created Museum, is currently presenting a curated art show highlighting the contributions of African American pioneers, trailblazers, and inventors.
This free museum, now in its 33rd year, is a guided tour that will be open until March 3. Attendees will not only have an opportunity to see amazing artwork, but will also gain thoughtful insight on African American contributions to the arts and sciences. To date, over 30 exhibits have been submitted for display.
Eddie Arellano, a teacher at Dolores Huerta Elementary, is founder and coordinator of this project. When asked, he had this to say about the significance of the program, “The motivation for creating a Multicultural Student Created Museum project is to promote literacy, and authentic student learning experiences. Since parents are invited to participate in the creation of classroom projects/exhibits, this student-led educational project has grown into a community-wide tradition.”
The museum is open during normal school hours. A special P.T.A. Museum Night Tour is scheduled for today, Feb. 23, from 4:30– 5:30 p.m.
To learn more, contact Dolores Huerta Elementary at 817-814-4400.
