AROUND GODOLPIN ESTATE AND HILL GWINEAR FOOTPATHS AND BRIDLEWAYS ASSOCIATION

Thursday 14th June 2018

A breeze and sun provided pleasant conditions for our walk this evening, so ten walkers and one dog depart the NT car park led by trusty veteran Howard Haynes!

We walk out on to the road linking Townshend with Godolphin village and walk along it, turning off by Blowing House Cottage. The NT waymarked path takes us alongside road and field and there are long views north west over woods and farmland towards the Hayle/Helston Road.

A FIVE STEP STILE.

The track comes back over the road at this stile, then over into a field as we head south west, skirting the southern border of the Estate. The going is very easy up a steady incline and through several more fields, including Old Deer Park with fairly easy stiles-our dog is having a fun time jumping in and out of the long grass and gets a ‘watering’ from her boss.

a gentle climb on a most beautiful route

Again there are long and wide views northeast to the high ground above Praze towards Crowan.

Just glorious!

Passing Great Work and chimney we alter course north west to follow the marked way up the hill- still a gentle climb, and as always rewarded with the 360 degree views from the top.

Not far to the top.
Favourite spaniel territory
Howard always adapts his walk routes to the conditions. This was perfect.
We are just able to see the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier in the bay above this rock.

We spotted the newly commissioned carrier still anchored in Mount’s Bay.

Descending and spotting Balwest engine house.

The sun is still strong as we descend, and at the bottom of Goldolphin Warren our group splits- three to take the easier route back to the car park and others to continue Howard’s planned route.

The final stile is conquered and we are in a field with a herd of Devon Reds which earlier had been on the hill. They are uninterested and don’t move. The field slopes gently down and we have views over to Townshend and beyond. At the bottom we are through a gate on to Vane’s Lane, a shady track taking us back to the House and ultimately the car park.

OX-EYE DAISIES AND RED CAMPION IN THE CAR PARK

Just over three miles, strolled in 1.75 hours. We meet up with our other group before departing.

Thanks Howard for our most enjoyable pleasure walk this evening.

our next walk is Thursday 12th july. Start from praze an beeble—-details to follow.
