Reception Summer Term 1 2023 Reception Class

What an amazing half term we’ve had in our class, the children have made so progress, enjoyed so many learning experiences and continued to build on friendships. Take a look at some of our amazing learning.

Amazing literacy

We have focused on developing our writing skills , sequencing stories and thinking about our handwriting and presentation.

We read the traditional tale Chicken Licken, then retold the story.

We read a set of instructions to make our caterpillar in the environment.

We sequenced the order of the life cycle of a butterfly and added sentences to explain each stage.

We labelled the parts of the butterfly and the caterpillar.

We have been retelling the story of The Hungry Caterpillar.

We have been tasting different food from the our key text The very hungry caterpillar.

We talked about the foods we liked and disliked.

Marvellous maths

We have been looking at patterns, recognising odd and even numbers and explain how we know.

We have been recalling number bonds.

We have been finding our about the different coins then making shops in the environment.

A focus on living things

We have been looking at the life cycles of living things, including butterflies, humans and chicks.

We observed the changes from eggs to chicks.

We made chick pictures using natural objects outside.

We ordered the life cycle of humans and introduced the vocabulary of toddler and teenager.

We watched our caterpillars spin a cocoon and turning into a butterfly.

We drew butterflies and talked about them being symmetrical.

We talked about healthy eating and sorted the food into healthy and unhealthy.

Celebrating Eid

We celebrated the festival or Eid and found out lots of tradition. The children shared their knowledge of Eid.

Celebrating the Kings Coronation

We compared the King’s Coronation with the Queen's coronation which was in the past.

We sang a coronation song and listen to some stories about the King.

We made the King’s crown

We did some amazing writing about the Kinfg,

We even took our learning about the coronation outdoors.

We compared different household items from the present and past when Queen Elizabeth had her coronation.

We enjoyed our last day joining in TTRockstars day.

Science investigation

Our subject driver is Music we will be listening to different music, play some instruments, learn some new songs and dance to music.
