#10 Colby Battles Neck and Neck With National Champion Middlebury

For the second straight week, the Colby Women's Ice Hockey team faced off against not only ranked opponents, but top-ranked opponents. Last week the Mules battled on the road at #7 Hamilton, and this week Colby fell in two nail biters to #6 Middlebury.

Mandy Busky, Jillian Mazzocca

In Friday's contest, Colby jumped in front in the second period with goals by McKinley Karpa and Meg Rittenhouse, but the visiting Panthers fought back with a powerplay goal halfway through the second frame to tie the match. Middlebury scored the game-winner right before the second intermission and held on for the victory.

In Saturday's matinee, Rittenhouse scored twice more and Jo Tattersall scored her second of the season to spot the hosts a 3-1 lead. The Panthers scored twice in the third period to even the game, and Middlebury tallied the game-winner with only seconds remaining in overtime.

Colby is 8-4, ranked 7th in the conference.

Mules Take NESCAC Champion Trinity to the Wire, Tie 3rd Place Wesleyan

In a rematch of last year's conference title game, the Mules traveled to Hartford to take on the Bantams of Trinity College. The hosts were able to score once more for the game-winner with five minutes remaining in regulation.

In Saturday's match at Wesleyan, Breitenfeldt scored twice more and Michael McEachern's tally halfway through the third frame put the Mules in front 3-1. The Cardinals connected with two quick goals within 30 seconds, and the two teams skated to a draw at the end of overtime.

In the last two weekends Colby has faced the four top-ranked teams in the conference.

Colby is 7-6-1, currently ranked fifth in the NESCAC.

Mules Fall to #6 Williams and #11 Middlebury

Max Poulton

The Colby Men's Basketball team headed on the road this week for two matchups against strong NESCAC opponents. Friday night against #6 Williams, the Mules were down four at the half and fought to stay with the hosts. Despite first-year Max Poulton tallying a career-high 27 points, the Ephs held on for the tight conference win. Jack Lawson contributed 13 points while Will King tallied 10 points and eight boards, along with seven assist.

Facing #11 Middlebury Saturday, Colby fell into a 28-36 hole for the halftime break. In the second half, the Mules closed to within five points down the stretch, but the Panthers' size underneath was too much as they totaled eight blocks and 16 points off Colby turnovers.
