Dragon Journal october 21, 2022

Information for October 31st Halloween! - As you guide your child in planning a costume, please keep in mind that we would appreciate your cooperation in planning a costume that is not ghoulish, morbid, or offensive to any culture or particular group of people. Also, no toy guns, knives or weapons are permitted. This may mean that you have to leave some components of your child’s costume at home. We encourage parents to continue our costume theme of positive role models. We want to work to provide a positive experience for our students. Thank you for your cooperation!

The school Halloween event will consist of an outside parade and class parties. If you do not want your child to participate in these activities, please advise your child’s teacher. We hope you can join us to watch the parade! The parade will take place on October 31st at 9:45am. If you are attending the parade, look for signs sharing the parade location and where parents should stand. Classroom parties will take place directly following the parade. Parents who are helping conduct the class party should join the classroom after the conclusion of the parade!

Mr. Canfield’s Bond Podcast - It is important to remember that we have a purposed TSD Bond to redefine our schools and learning spaces. Mr. Canfield was interviewed and shares why the bond is important and how it impacts Schroeder Elementary School. Click the link below to listen to the podcast!

Bond Team Volunteers - As you know, TSD has a proposed bond to support all Troy Schools. We are looking to develop a Schroeder Bond Team to help distribute the information to our community. Schroeder parent, Kristen Kender, is the bond team captain and is looking for volunteers to join the team! If you have questions or are interested in helping with this important work, please email Mrs. Kender at kkender@hotmail.com. Please reach out to her this week!

Schroeder Employment Opportunities

We would like to share information regarding employment opportunities at Schroeder Elementary. These positions help support our students and school! They also provide an hourly wage to the people serving in the position. If you are looking for a position to earn an hourly age while helping our school, please read this information!

Student Support Aide Position - Schroeder Elementary is looking to hire for the position of student support aide. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please contact Mr. Canfield at bcanfield@troy.k12.mi.us. Please contact him immediately!

Employment Opportunity - Schroeder is looking for a few people to join our Noon Aide team! This is a paid position that involves supervising and assisting our students in the cafeteria and on the playground during lunch and lunch recess. If you are interested in learning more about this position, please email Gretchen at gohman@troy.k12.mi.us.

Too Many Shoes? - Schroeder 5th graders are collecting gently used or new shoes as part of their student led community service project! There will be a box in the main office vestibule to collect the donations until December 1st.

Have You Signed-Up for Conferences? - Sign up now for Parent Teacher Conferences on the Schroeder website: https://schroeder.troy.k12.mi.us/teacher-conference-sign-up-genius. It is important to know one of our Parent Teacher Conference days are done virtually using Microsoft Teams. PARENTS MUST DOWNLOAD THE MICROSOFT TEAMS APP in order to join the virtual conference or USE THEIR CHILD'S IPAD which will have the Microsoft Teams app already downloaded.

NOTE: Please be aware that grade K-4 conferences are for parents only and students should remain at home. Please make alternative arrangements for your child in grades K-4. Grade 5 conferences are student led conferences and students and parents should attend. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Wednesday, October 26 - In-Person Conferences (Conferences will take place in the teacher’s classroom.)
  • Thursday, October 27 - Virtual Conferences (Conferences will take place on Microsoft Teams. Use your child's iPad or download Microsoft Teams to join.)

Having an in-person conference option and a virtual conference option is the format being used across all TSD elementary schools. We hope that this helps parents attend conferences and manage family schedules.

If you think that you may join conferences virtually using a home device (rather than your child's iPad), please prepare by reviewing the information and downloading the Microsoft Teams app so that you can join the session.

Picture Re-Take Day - Picture package orders should be arriving from Kaiser Studios next week and will be brought home in your child's backpack. If you are unhappy with your child's photograph, please have your child bring in the complete purchased picture package on re-take day with a note explaining your dissatisfaction. Picture re-take day is November 10th.

If your child missed the September picture day, your child will have their picture taken on November 10th. You may purchase a picture package from the Kaiser Studio website www.Kaiserstudio.com and use school ID code: 22SCHROE23.

Lost & Found - The Lost & Found is getting overstocked. Please look at the photos below and see if there is something that belongs to your household.
