ITA MOST IMPROVED SENIOR MOSES HUTCHISON | UNIVERSITY OF MARY WASHINGTON

Moses Hutchison

Senior | University of Mary Washington

ITA Most Improved Senior Award

Moses Hutchison from the University of Mary Washington has been named the 2022 ITA Most Improved Senior.

As a freshman, Hutchinson came into college very raw but worked very hard all off-season to secure a spot in the 8-man rotation that year. He was not a full-time starter in singles and did not start at NCAA's at end of the year.

Sophomore year, Hutchinson went from not being a full-time starter to playing No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, including advancing to NCAA's and making the Quarterfinals in doubles, becoming an All-American.

Junior year, Hutchinson was on track to possibly be the best player in Mary Washington history, but with the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic his season had to be put on hold.

In 2020-21, Mary Washington had no fall season and their spring season was very limited. Hutchinson went 9-4 in Singles and 10-5 in Doubles, while advancing to NCAA's in both singles and doubles.

Hutchinson decided to come back in 2021-22 and has been fantastic for Mary Washington in his senior season. He made the ITA Regional Finals in singles and won our ITA Regional in Doubles. At Nationals he was 2-1 in both Singles and Doubles and is All-American in both.

He will finish his career at Mary Washington top 5 in career wins, including top 5 in singles (70 and counting) and 2nd in doubles (86 and counting). He is two time All-American in both Singles and Doubles.

A Letter From Head Coach Todd Helbling

Dear Moses,

Congratulations on this prestigious award. I understand you have received many awards lately, and rightly so. But try to embrace and be thankful for each one. There are many variables that go into being selected for these awards. Your dedication and determination in your freshman year set the tone for the next four years.

You came in humble without many expectations and you got to work. You came in without much deep down confidence in yourself against our toughest competition, much less your veteran teammates. But you worked hard, worked smart, played smart, and developed your game quickly, allowing you to know you could do it.

I am very proud of the progress you made each year. You just kept getting better and got into a positive cycle of knowing you could play against anyone across the net from you.

I think this award is perfect for you from where you started to how much you developed each year, ending your career giving us a good shot to win at your positions every time you stepped onto the court. Your improvement is up there with the most significant I have seen in my years of coaching. Congrats again. Well earned.
