Week 2

English this week was another Greek myth - Daedalus and Icarus. We chunked up the story after watching one version and reading another. In groups, we took a section of the story and planned it out so that each group had a beginning, middle and ending. Next week, it’s Medusa.
Maths was a mixture of fractions, making a right angle checker using a pair of compasses and a protractor and money.
Art was all about positive and negative spaces in drawing. We used the shapes from last eek and rebuilt some sculptures. Using a photograph of the sculpture, we looked at the shapes made by the spaces in the background and around the sides of the sculpture rather than the shapes making up the sculpture itself. It was harder than it looked but given that it was leading up to some abstract art, that’s not surprising!
Looking at some of the Greek gods and goddesses, we first tried to piece back together some images of primary sources of information I.e. decorated pottery from Ancient Greece - the classic golden age in particular! We then added some information about the deity we had.
In science, we questioned whether we could see without light. Using the simple technique of finding a dark room and turning all the lights off, w discovered that no, we couldn’t. What we could see though were sources of light like a powered light build and a turned on iPad.
Throwing and catching skills with Mr Walker on Monday. It was cricket on Tuesday so a good thing to practice…
