What to wear? photography by mindy kincade

It’s totally up to you! Changing looks is as important as changing up locations to get the variety of shots needed for a complete senior session!

LAYERS

When choosing your outfits, think layers, combinations and options. Small quick changes are super helpful to keep variety in your finished images.

TURN UP THE VOLUME

Your outfits should reflect your personality, but you’ll definitely want to step out of the box. Change up your everyday looks by adding some flare through bold colors, unique vintage pieces, intricate design details or fun prints and patterns. This day is all about YOU! Accessories are the perfect way to AMP UP YOUR STYLE!

MOBILE DRESSING ROOM

You’ll be changing on location usually in your car, so don’t forget to throw in a pop up sunshade for your car! BRING YOUR MAKEUP TOO! Especially lipstick and powder for touchups!

GET ORGANIZED!

I have learned this is such an important step! A day or two before your session, have all of your outfits organized by ‘complete look’. Make sure you have the shoes, undergarments and accessories (labeled in ziplock bags)! We will organize them by the Session Map I make just for you to allow for seamless quick changes!

SHOULDERS UP

Another thing that is worth mentioning is to pay attention to how your complete look will photograph from the shoulders up. Most of the images that are selected for announcemnts and wallets are ‘headshots’ so be sure that you have some ‘interest’ from the shoulders up. Think about color, texture, jewelry. I don’t recommend tube tops because they look very bare in headshots. Just a heads up! (See what I did there?)

Here are some clothing items to consider in your looks:

  • Jeans
  • Shorts
  • Skirts (long, short)
  • Tanks
  • Tees (A band t-shirt or graphic t-shirt can add some fun to any look)
  • Sweaters/Cardigans
  • Hoodies
  • Dresses (Maxi, Sun Dress, Cocktail)
  • Rompers (short or long)
  • Polos
  • Khakis/Dress Pants

Layering Pieces like:

  • Button Downs/Flannels
  • Cardigans
  • Jackets (Jean, Letterman, Leather)
  • Blazer
  • Vest
  • Scarves/Hats (for fall/winter session)

Shoes can just make a look!

  • Killer pair of high heels
  • Boots
  • Booties
  • Sandals
  • Flats
  • Wedges
  • Tennis Shoes
  • Bare Feet or Open Toed Sandals? Be sure your toes are freshly painted!

Also Consider adding in these:

  • Sports Uniform
  • Cap/Gown
  • Prom Dress

Accessorize!

  • Bows
  • Sunglasses
  • Watches
  • Belts
  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Jewelry (simple and statement)
  • Tie/Bow Tie
  • Fun Socks

DON'T FORGET

  • Water to drink
  • Snacks (that won't mess up your lipstick)
  • Car Sunshade for privacy when changing
  • Bug Spray & Sunscreen
  • Lipstick/Mascara
  • Foundation/Powder
  • Brush/Hairspray/Bobby Pins
  • Proper Undergarments for each look

Also consider bringing:

  • Sports equipment
  • Musical instruments
  • Favorite book(s)
  • Pets (please let me know if you plan to bring your pet)
  • Car/Truck/SUV

Here are some things I don't recommend:

  • "flowy" super loose fitting tops or dresses
  • tube tops (unless layering with something)
  • tiny dots or tiny stripes

DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS

  • Manicure finger nails and toe nails too
  • Tweeze stray eyebrows or have them waxed a few days before.
  • Trim nose, neck, mustache, beard and ear hairs.
