Italy Tour: Day 10 Rome, Italy>>>Lisbon, Portugal (quick Stop)>>>Chicago>>>Decatur,IL

Checking in at Rome–Fiumicino International "Leonardo da Vinci" Airport

Heading Home!

By Abby Ratsch

Today we are headed back home! We ate breakfast early this morning then headed to the airport in shuttle vans.

Virtual COVID-19 tests, breakfast, shuttle loaded and saying goodbye to the best guide we could ask for, Naomi!

We made it through check in and security with ease (for the most part). After that, we found our gate and then walked around the airport to scout out the food options (pretty much everyone got gelato from Venchi and it was delicious). We also bought some last minute souvenirs and gifts then finally boarded the plane and made our journey to Lisbon, Portugal for our connecting flight home.

Our last gelato 😢
The much shorter line for passport checks

Luckily for us, passport check wasn’t as bad this time. We only had to wait in line for probably ten minutes max, which is amazing compared to our three hour wait last time. We were very very happy about it!! After we got off the plane, we all found some food. Most of us got a hamburger because we missed it so much. Italian food is good but nothing can beat a good hamburger.

Burgers and plane rides.

After we ate, we boarded our flight home to Chicago! This 8 hour flight consisted of lots of sleep (some more than others), books, movies, and some interesting food. We headed through customs which was also so much faster than the Lisbon airport (thank god). After that we grabbed our luggage and parted our separate ways. Some of us drove home with parents while others headed back to Decatur in a charter bus then headed home from there. We absolutely loved our time in Italy but are beyond excited to be back at home!!!!
