Year 11 Earth & Environmental Science Field Study
Students in this course conducted an environmental study comparing two sites at Minyon.
They studied the geology, abiotic factors, and vegetation. A transect at each location was undertaken, identifying various species of vegetation, and analysing the soil in which they are located.
Everyone had a great time learning the skills required to be an Environmental Scientist.

Changes to sport selections | a must read for all Years 7 to 10 families
NEW ONLINE Term 2 Sport Selections - opens for students 8pm Monday 13 March
- Please have a conversation with your student about their choices prior to Monday 13 March
- Students will receive an email with a link to the Sport Selections in their school inbox on Monday.
- Students are to click on the link in the email.
- Students will be directed to the School Bytes login page (below).
Changes you can expect
- Students will be responsible for their selections.
- An email will be sent to students on Monday 13 March.
- Their sign-in to sport selections is identical to them signing in at school, using their school email address and password.
- Students will select 2 preferences and submit their choices.
- Sports will still have capacities and as they fill up, they will drop off the selection menu.
- Students who are absent from school will still have access to emails and sport selections so they can make their choices from home.
- Computers will be available at lunchtime in Room 32 throughout Week 8 if students cannot access a phone/computer/internet at home.
- At the end of Week 8, sports selections will close, and parents will be sent an email with the sport their child has selected, including a payment and permission link to be completed.
- All payments and permissions must be completed by the end of Week 9 to ensure a smooth start to school sport in Term 2.
- Any students who has not selected a sport by the end of Week 9 will be allocated a sport.
This is a new process and students were taken through the process in their Jali groups last week.
A paper hand-out of the sport choices was distributed to students on Tuesday, so that conversations can be had at home about what sports are available prior to the selections.
What you need to do as a Parent/Carer?
- Week 7 - Have a conversation with your child when the information note comes home regarding what sport they would like to do.
- Monday 13 March – Students action their email from 8 pm to complete their online sport selection.
A reminder that Wednesday sport is a compulsory part of the Byron Bay High School Curriculum and as such all students must attend sport each week.
Appointments, where possible should be made outside of school time to allow students the opportunity to engage in physical activity with their peers each week.
If you have any questions please contact me.

Far North Coast Opens Netball Gala Day
A big congratulations to the Opens Girls Netball Team for making the FNC Netball Final. In the round games we defeated Tweed River High School 16 – 13 and Murwillumbah Learning Community High School 27 – 6.
In the FNC final we played an extremely strong Ballina Coast High School team who were the better team that game. A fantastic effort from the girls who are mostly junior students.
Congratulations to Tess Kennedy, Milarnie King and Nellie Copeland for making the Possibles Vs Probable’s for the FNC Opens Girls Netball Trials.

'Due date' for online permissions and payments
All online permissions and payments must be finalised by the due date. Late payments will not be accepted.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Another opportunity to order your ATSI Hoodies
We have exciting news! Kaitlyn Clark, local Arakwal Artist and ex Byron Bay High School student, designed a logo that will be showcased on the back of a hoodie so that Byron Bay High School will have an official ATSI hoodie.
These Hoodies have proven to be extremely popular and as a result we are putting in another order.
Please go to the external link below to order and pay. Please do not make payments to the school. The hoodies are $80 each and hopefully the designs will be ready in approximately 8 weeks.
There are no sample sizes to try on, however the hoodies tend to be quite generous so a large runs quite large.
Please remember to fill out the student's 'name' field at the bottom of the checkout page for easier jacket identification and distribution at school.
After ordering, ensure you receive an email confirmation, stating the order number and details of your purchase.
FINAL date for ordering is Thursday 16 March 2023.
Order today so you don't miss out!

Why attendance matters
NESA HSC Minimum Standard online tests
BBHS students will have their first opportunity to practice and complete the HSC Minimum Standard tests during Weeks 5 - 8 of Term 1. Tests will be conducted during Preparing for Success classes and are required by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for the award of the HSC. The online tests assess reading, writing and numeracy skills and have a dual purpose as evidence of skill level for school leavers.
For more information see the flyer below or visit the website provided. Any questions relating to school organisation and testing can be directed to Mrs Leanne Croft via the school email.
