RACE 8.1: TOGO, THE TRUE HERO OF NOME “We few. We band of few Champions.”

🐺ALPHA DÉKA🐺

Congratulations Alpha Déka!

Yes, your intuitions are correct! The final race is the most difficult race and will pave the way on becoming the first Alpha for this season!

Race 8 will be divided into 2 parts that will start from April 4 and end on April 22. Lengthy but much needed.

🐺PART 1: TOGO🐺

We have always remembered Balto and his story of saving the lives of the people during the Diphtheria outbreak.

But have you heard of another hero named Togo?

As Togo and his team FEARLESSLY ran through the Ice of the NORTON Sound, Seppala’s ode RESONATED...

“He which hath no stomach to this fight. Let him depart. His passport shall be made. We will not die in that dog’s company. Old dogs forget but he will remember, with advantages, the feats he did that day.

Then shall our names familiar in his mouth, as household words, Seppala, the driver, Fritz and Sally, Molly and Red and Togo, the great Togo in lead, be all in their flowing bowls be remembered.

And dogs in Nome, now abed, shall think themselves accursed they were not here. We few, we happy few. We band of Champions.”

If you have not heard of Togo, let us share with you the story of how a dog saved an Alaskan town.

Togo was named after the underdog Admiral, Togo Heihachiro. As a pup, he was weak and was not fit to be a sled dog. When Togo was 8 months old, he proved his worth as a sled dog. Togo had logged 75 miles on his first day in harness, which was unheard of for an inexperienced young sled dog, especially a puppy. Seppala called him an "infant prodigy".

Togo was 12 years old when he ran with his team on the Serum Run.

The Great Race Of Mercy

In 1925, in response to an epidemic, Togo and Seppala traveled 264 miles from Nome in three days, and picked up the serum in Shaktoolik. The return trip crossed the exposed open ice of the Norton Sound. The night and a ground blizzard prevented Seppala from being able to see the path but Togo navigated to the roadhouse preventing certain death to his team.

Due to Togo’s bad condition, the serum was passed on to the other teams.

The last dog sled team was led by Balto...

The dog that often gets credit for eventually saving the town is Balto, but he just happened to run the last leg in the race. The sled dog who did the lion's share of the work was Togo.

FUN FACT: The Alpha Season 1 started in January 2021.

Togo is the true hero of Nome...
“A hero doesn’t need any movement that proves he is a hero. His actions prove that he IS the real hero.”
Fun Fact: The HuskieS was established in October 17, 2018. The SAME DAY Togo was born.

We all have our stories and our parts to play in each other’s lives. Some stories are expressive and some are repressive. Some stories have a happy ending and some are still finding their way out from their misery. And some are just drifting where the tides will take them.

Nevertheless, there is still a story to tell.

One of the most therapeutic ways of expressing your story is through a song. Your song. A song that can give you a PEACE of mind and a sense of fulfillment.

This race is dedicated to you.

You are the hero to your own story...

The theme for this race is NOTHING NEW to the Smule community/TV talent shows and it is highly anticipated during ANY finals competition. Common but difficult.

As your journey comes to an end, you will be tested FOR YOUR TALENT, DISCIPLINE AND PERCIPIENCE.

FOR THE FIRST PART OF THE FINAL RACE...

Your story! Your lyrics!

You will compose your own song using the tracks provided on the mechanics.

Give your song a title

The musical instrumentations and lyrics were originally composed by some of our Huskies members. For the purpose of the race, the track was reuploaded at our Huskies hub without the lyrics.

FUN FACT: Two of these tracks were taken from The HuskieS theme songs: “Isang Himig”.

We would LOVE for you to give it life by writing your story on their tracks! Feel free to let your emotions flow! You don’t need to write it for anyone else. Write it and sing it for yourself! Good luck!

HERE’S THE CATCH!

To UNLOCK Race 8.2, you MUST finish and submit Race 8.1 ASAP! The Race Marshals will then directly message you for the next part of the race!

There is NO specific deadline date for Race 8.1. It’s up to YOU on how you will manage your time for the final race. Just remember that both parts of the final race are EQUAL in caliber and that you have until April 22 to complete the entire Race.

IF YOU FAIL TO SUBMIT BOTH PARTS OF YOUR RACE 8 ENTRIES, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

TIP: The sooner you finish, the more time you will have for the second part of the final race!

THIS IS A RACE TOWARDS THE FINISH LINE! HIKE!
