Welcome to the First-Year Experience Digital Welcome Package.
Your passport to success at Northern Arizona University!
"To promote educational persistence and facilitate the design of a meaningful life."
Welcome to Flagstaff, Arizona!
Towering ponderosa pines and majestic peaks make NAU’s vibrant Flagstaff campus one of the most dynamic residential university experiences in the nation. With a four-season climate and diverse landscapes, you’ll discover outdoor adventures unlike anywhere else in Arizona.
The land that Northern Arizona University sits on is within the ancestral and traditional land boundaries of several Tribal Nations, including the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni, Paiute, Havasupai, and several other tribal Nations in Arizona. We are fortunate to live and work in such an important and amazing place!

Around town
Beyond the NAU campus, Flagstaff offers a ton of exciting activities and events for you to explore - here is just a taste of what the town has to offer!
First Friday ArtWalk
ArtWalk FLG presented by Nature Exposed Photography is one of Northern Arizona’s premier arts events and has been a staple of our creative community for more than a decade. Each first Friday of the month, art galleries and businesses in historic downtown Flagstaff open their doors from 6-9pm with special art exhibitions, performances, live music, treats, and much much more. Many downtown hot spots remain open after 9pm as the ArtWalk celebrations continue. During warmer months, live performances and vendors can be found in Heritage Square. It’s Flagstaff's monthly street party, and everyone's invited!
The Coconino Humane Society
"It is the mission of the Coconino Humane Association to operate a humane and caring shelter that will give aid to unwanted, abandoned, and mistreated animals in Flagstaff and across Northern Arizona."
There are no shortages of furry friends waiting to meet you here in Flagstaff. Maybe you are looking to adopt a new family member or join in on a puppy-focused event (like Campus Health's "PAWS Your Stress" or Flagstaff's "Puppy Yoga"), or maybe you just want to look at some cute pictures of local puppies to relax - in any case, you've come to the right place!

"What is the First Year Experience?"
Our intent: to promote educational persistence and facilitate the design of a meaningful life.
For traditional college students, the first-year marks the start of a new academic and social journey. The transition to college can be one of the single biggest changes a person can experience. It is a transition that is daunting, exciting, confusing, and surprising all at once. As you begin your Lumberjack career, First Year Experience is here to help. Feel free to contact us at NAU.FYE@nau.edu, or give us a call at 928-523-2786.
