Class 6 Learning Journey Spring 2 2021/2022

Literacy

Linking with our LIRA, we wrote a setting description based on Dracula’s arrival at Whitby. We focused on the following skills in order to write an effective piece:

  • Figurative language
  • The use of the five senses to describe
  • Exciting sentence openers
  • Powerful verbs and adjectives to impact the reader

Maths

In maths this half term, we widened our knowledge further on the time, money and statistics. We also continued to develop our arithmetic skills and applying these to real-life contexts.

LIRA

This half term, we have read the texts Dracula and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We have also explored non-fiction texts, focusing on The Buildings that made London which links with our topic.

Here are some examples of our work...

Topic

Our topic this half term, ‘From Whitby to London’, focussed on the geographical similarities and differences between the two places. We started our topic with a trip to Whitby where children observed the area and identified a variety of human and physical features.

After our trip, we further explored Whitby and London and compared the two. Take a look at some of our work...

Music Week

During music week, we built up our skills to compose our own short piece of music by the end of the week. We learnt skills such as:

  • Clapping a steady beat with others
  • Structuring musical ideas using echo techniques
  • Arranging individual notes into sequences
  • Playing phrases they have composed

Science Week

Our focus for Science Week was ‘Growth’. We planted radish seeds and made predictions about how they would grow. Before we planted our seeds, we discussed what plants need to grow and survive.

World Book Day

Easter

Take a look at our entries for the Easter Competition!

On the run up to Easter, we have been rehearsing and performing our Easter production ‘Roll Back the Stone’. We really enjoyed performing it for our parents/carers!
