Literacy
Linking with our LIRA, we wrote a setting description based on Dracula’s arrival at Whitby. We focused on the following skills in order to write an effective piece:
- Figurative language
- The use of the five senses to describe
- Exciting sentence openers
- Powerful verbs and adjectives to impact the reader
Topic
Our topic this half term, ‘From Whitby to London’, focussed on the geographical similarities and differences between the two places. We started our topic with a trip to Whitby where children observed the area and identified a variety of human and physical features.
After our trip, we further explored Whitby and London and compared the two. Take a look at some of our work...
Music Week
During music week, we built up our skills to compose our own short piece of music by the end of the week. We learnt skills such as:
- Clapping a steady beat with others
- Structuring musical ideas using echo techniques
- Arranging individual notes into sequences
- Playing phrases they have composed
