Principal's Message
Geography fieldwork has taken off this week with walking visits to the local area to compare it with their areas of study. Y4 have been the first out exploring with the other year groups fast on their heels next week. it has been great to see the Y6 Bikeability cyclists take to the road. We hope to see more children cycling safely to and from school with helmets||! Next year we hope to book this in for all year groups, unfortunately we can't always get the bookings. Thank you to the Lighthouse Trust for providing us with an inspirational assembly on dreams and goals,
Reminders
Mobile phones should only be brought into school if absolutely necessary e.g. to stay in contact during walking home or back. Once on the school grounds your child MUST turn off the phone.
Cycling - if your child cycles to school they need to dismount before entering any part of the grounds. We have unfortunately had a couple of near mises and children then being rude to the adult who have been almost hit. Children should be wearing a cycle helmet.
Jewellery - if children have pierced ears they need to wear studs only. Sleepers should not be worn as there is the risk that they can be caught accidently and cause and injury.
Children’s Mental Health Week
6th – 12th February 2023
On Friday to mark the end of Children’s Mental Health Week we are having a non-uniform day. The theme of the day is ‘Dress to Express’, a chance to allow the children an opportunity to express themselves through their clothing. You could wear colours that might reflect your personality or a piece of clothing that is linked to your favourite hobby. If you would like to make a donation we are collecting money for the organisation ‘Place2Be’, a charity that offers support for children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. Details to be sent out.

Learning Round-up
This week in Maple we have been busy in PSHE working in teams to come up with some garden designs, working on our team work skills. In maths we have continued to look at fractions, In talk for writing we have completed our amber writes(there have been some fantastic stories to read). In science, we have been looking at food categories and in talk for reading, we have started to look at the text ‘The Tin Forest’ . We were thinking about our initial thoughts on the text and how it made us feel.
Silver Birch have continued to work hard this week, especially when it comes to our maths lessons. I have been incredibly impressed by the attitude and hard work all children have put in! You have all shown your determination to understand fractions and it is amazing to see! It has also been exciting to see how hard you have been working on your writing in our Talk for Writing lessons and I cannot wait to see your ‘hot writes’ next week! Well done!
This week Pine class enjoyed investigating how quickly different types of chocolate melt in Science, and have been working incredibly hard in maths and are showing a great understanding of decimals. We have also loved doing a special art project, using paper and wires to create 3D sculptures. In Talk for Reading we discovered a new model text (Varjak Paw), and had some great discussions about cats. This week we have also had the opportunity to do some field work for Geography in Daventry, discovering how migration has affected the town we live in!
Elder - This week we have been completing our amber writes making our own suspense tales. The children have been coming up with some wonderful ideas. We are also looking in geography at the effects of climate change and the children have been looking at ways in which we can help prevent climate change to protect our planet. In PSHE we have looked at how our dreams and goals compare to children of other cultures.
Willow - This week we have been completing our amber writes making our own suspense tales. The children have been coming up with some wonderful ideas. We are also looking in geography at the effects of climate change and the children have been looking at ways in which we can help prevent climate change to protect our planet. In PSHE we have looked at how our dreams and goals compare to children of other cultures.
Sequoia- This week we have completed our amber writes, writing some extremely creative suspense tales. We have enjoyed learning about other cultures in PSHE and comparing the dreams and goals of people in other countries to our own hopes for the future. Another exciting project that we have participated in is our artwork based on the book The Dot.
This week, Oak class have thoroughly enjoyed reading their new text in their Talk for Reading unit which is an extract from Anne Frank’s diary. They have been very interested in the context of why they had to hide from Nazi Germany at the time during WW2. They made brilliant links with their learning in History. Additionally to this, they have continued in their fantastic efforts in Science comparing and contrasting the life cycles of reptiles and birds.
This week, Acer have enjoyed exploring what life was like for Britain on the homefront. They discussed what rationing was like and the type of foods they had available during WW2. They had the opportunity to listen to some experiences of people who were children during the war and found it fascinating to hear what the Blitz was like in London. In writing they have planned and began to write their warning tales, considering how to describe their setting and characters.
