Steel Sports Spotlights JUNE 2021

"You’ll score a lot of goals in your career, but not one of them will happen without the help of a teammate." —Abby Wambach

FREE BASEBALL CLINICS GIVE KIDS OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY

Team Steel California and Team Steel Colorado both hosted free baseball clinics in their communities and received a tremendous turnout. California's clinic was held on Saturday, June 26 at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach and had 37 kids. This was the first of two free clinics, the second coming up on July 10, leading into tryouts on July 24. Former Major Leaguer and Steel Sports VP of Baseball Player, Coach & Curriculum Development Keith Osik attended, and the clinic was run by Team Steel head coach and former professional player Keith Ramsey.

Colorado's clinic had 92 kids between two sessions on Monday, June 28 at Poudre High School in Fort Collins. The 8U-12U players took the field from Noon-2 p.m., while the 13U-14U players participated from 3-5 p.m. Team Steel Colorado is wrapping up its first season and getting ready for 2022 tryouts on July 19-20.

Steel Energy Controller Nick Leader, who was a pitcher in college, joined Team Steel CO to instruct at the clinic. After the clinic, Nick said, "A lot can be learned through the game of baseball and it was evident that this was priority over anything else. When you have 11-13 year old kids walk up to you unprompted and shake your hand, look you in the eye and say “thank you,” you know something is working and progress is being made. It’s a job well done and this mentality is much needed in our youth today!”

Staff Spotlights

June’s Impact MVP of the Month is New York, Long Island's Frank Zitaglio! As Regional Operations Manager, Frank is a staple at Baseball Heaven and his contribution over the years is remarkable. This June, in particular, Frank orchestrated the Tommy Lasorda Showdown during which Team Steel spearheaded donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundation in honor of Men’s Health Month. June’s Staff Star of the Month is New York, Long Island's Dan Kennedy! In his short time as Vice President of Teams at Steel Sports, Dan has quickly emerged as a mentor and strong contributor to the culture and success of Team Steel. Dan’s commitment to excellence and team-oriented attitude are admired and appreciated by coaches, players, and staff alike. Congratulations, Dan!
