Superintendent Communiqué Midland Public Schools

September 12, 2022

Volume 10 Edition 07

Midland Public Schools District Vision Statement: Lead with respect, trust and courage. Ensure an equitable, collaborative and inclusive culture. Enable all to achieve success.
We will never forget.
To celebrate the Chinese Mid-autumn festival last Saturday (9/10), Mr. Jingcheng Wang's Chinese classes learned Chinese traditions for that festival. Students tasted snow-skin mooncakes, compared the Mid-autumn festival and Thanksgiving, observed traditional lanterns, listened to a mooncake legend, and read a book about eating mooncakes.

2022 Midland Public and Parochial Schools Fun Run for 4th and 5th Graders

The purpose of the Fun Run is to stimulate interest in cardio-vascular endurance among students and to provide them with distance experience. The Fun Run will also allow students the opportunity to compete and compare their ability with others their age.

The Fun Run will be one mile run on the cross-country course at Stratford Woods.

MPS Connections

In this week's episode, we thank Brian Brutyn for all of his hard work and introduce the new host of MPS Connections, A.J. Hoffman! A.J. comes to us from within the ranks of MPS. With a background in podcasting and a degree in journalism, he and Brian talk about telling the district's stories with a fresh perspective.

Congratulations to Dick Blasy and Joe Stadelmaier!

The National Art Honor Society group meets once a month (First Tuesday) for a business meeting and then has a service/social event once a month also. Members usually have snacks and drinks and often a service opportunity (working on a mural for the school, quote boards that go up around the building, hand-made greeting cards for sale, hand-made cards which they donate to the residents of Riverside, as well as ceramics for sale -- with all of the money going back into the program).
SVSU and Bowie State University joined in a historic collaboration to share the culture and traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities on Saturday, September 10, at SVSU's Wickes Stadium. De'Ondre Hogan, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Susi Sadek, Manager of Human Resources, attended the tailgate party. Hogan attended other scheduled activities on Thursday and Friday, including the "step show" on Friday. MPS' commitment to DEI goes hand-in-hand with the recruiting strategy for the future, and this event was an excellent opportunity to network and talk to prospective teachers about the district.
