Small Works Holiday Show pops up in Westport By Lucy Zuckerman

The Small Works Holiday Show is an annual show produced by the Artists Collective of Westport. They are a group of local artists formed by Helen During, Nina Bentley, Miggs Burroughs, Tammy Winser, Duvian Montoya and Jahmane West. The group has grown and now has 150 active members. The show occurs around the holidays every year, and is called the Small Works show because it is referring to the 12 by 12 art pieces in the exhibit. There are 150 different styles of art at the show, and it is affordably priced for the holiday season. The show is in the gallery at the Westport Playhouse and is running from Dec. 11-15. The opening was Dec. 11 from 6 to 8 pm. On Dec. 12, 13 and 14 the show was open from 12 to 5 pm. The gallery was open on Dec. 15. from 12 to 3 pm.

All the art was spaced out in the same way all around the gallery creating a very uniform look.
This colorful piece was made by Larry Gordon. He used acrylic paints and funky patterns to create a piece that could catch someone’s eye.
Although all the pieces were 12 by 12, they were not all paintings. Sculptures by Zvi Goldman (top) and Nina Bentley (bottom) were all featured in the show. Some sculptures were made of wood, while others used different materials such as typewriters.

Other pieces were made with everyday objects. Susan Lloyd created this piece that was made of only seashells.

Lee Walther created this piece using buttons, jewelry and other small objects.

Holly Hawthorn created this by using acrylic paint and paint brushes scattered throughout.

Thomas Berntsen used paint and wood to create a shiny and metallic look.

Steve Pomerantz took a different approach and backlit a photograph, which stood out from the other artwork.

There was a bar that had all different types of drinks, and a long table in the middle of the gallery with lots of food options including festive cookies.
