Extended Day Canceled for Tuesday, December 13, 2022
We are canceling Extended Day on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. We will be having an inspection on the Dehumidifier project at 3:30 PM, and we will need all students off campus during the inspection.
Family Movie Night - Friday, December 2, 2022, at 6:15 PM
We will host a Family Movie Night on Friday, December 2 at 6:15 PM. We will show "The Polar Express" in the lunchroom. PTA will provide popcorn and soft drinks for free. This is one of our Family Engagement activities for this school year. Please make plans to attend. Parents, you can bring blankets and lawn chairs to set up in the lunchroom. We ask that parents attend with their children. At the end of the movie, we will have a drawing for a student to take home the DVD. We look forward to a fun evening.
Super Citizen Assembly with Liberty's Legacy
On Wednesday, December 7, our 2nd and 5th-grade students will have their culminating assembly on the citizenship lessons that they have been having this semester with the 2nd and 5th Grade students from East Elementary. Our 2nd and 5th-grade students have been learning about the traits of a good citizen, and each grade will recognize two Super Citizens from the Cullman area in the assembly. This program is sponsored by local businesses through an organization, Liberty's Legacy, to promote the qualities of being a good citizen.
2nd and 4th Grade Students' Vision Screening - Tuesday, December 13, 2022
Vision Research will conduct a vision screen for our 2nd and 4th Grade students on Tuesday, December 13. The screen takes a photograph of the child's eye and can screen for vision problems. A form with an explanation of the screening will be sent home on Monday, December 5. If you want your child to be screened, you will not have to send anything back. If you wish to opt-out of the screening, please follow the directions on the form, sign the form, and return it to your child's teacher.
Christmas Parties - 2nd and 3rd Grades
Our 2nd Grade students will have their Christmas parties on Friday, December 16 at 1:15 PM in their classrooms. Our 3rd Grade students will have their Christmas parties on Monday, December 19 at 1:15 PM in their classrooms. Your child's homeroom teacher will be sending home information about the parties.
Early Release Day - Tuesday, December 20, 2022
Parents, school will be dismissed at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up on this day at 11:30 AM. We will serve breakfast and lunch at school on this day. This will be the final day before the Christmas Holiday Break.
Visiting Campus
Parents, we have enjoyed seeing more parents on campus for events, meetings, and eating lunch with your child. A couple of reminders for visitors to campus. All visitors need to sign in with Mrs. Dixon in the main office and receive a visitor's badge. Visitors should go directly to the area that they are visiting (classroom, lunchroom, etc.). This helps us keep up with who is on campus. Again, it is nice to have you with us more this year.
West Elementary School Book Fair will be November 28 - December 2, 2022
Students will attend the West Elementary School Book Fair during their Library or Guidance Lesson the week of November 28 - December 2, 2022. We use the money that we raise in the Book Fair to purchase books for our library. Here are the days that the homerooms will go to the Book Fair. Each homeroom will have forty-five minutes at the Book Fair. Monday - all 4th Grade Homerooms, Tuesday - Mrs. Cleveland, Mrs. Dial, Ms. Files, Mrs. Free, Mrs. Noblett, and Mrs. Robinson; Wednesday - all 5th Grade Homerooms; Thursday - Mrs. Lang, Mrs. Kallhoff, Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Carver, and Ms. Daniel; Friday - all 3rd Grade Homerooms.
Thanksgiving Lunches
Thank you to all the parents that attended our Thanksgiving Lunches the week of November 14. It was a pleasure to host you. It means a lot to have you here at West Elementary. Thank you to our outstanding lunchroom staff for preparing a wonderful meal on the three days that we hosted our parents.
Attendance
I wanted to share some of our attendance data (the percentage of days that students are present at school) and reiterate that we want your child at school when they are not sick. The last three weeks have been difficult with the severity of the Flu in Cullman, and we do not want your child to come to school sick or with an elevated fever. Parents, you have eight parent notes to excuse any absence. You may use up to five parent notes in a semester. If you use five parent notes in one semester, you can use three parent notes in the following semester. Our school goal is to be above 95% in our school attendance. We are slightly below 95% after sixty-four days of school. Here is the breakdown by grade level: 2nd Grade - 94.7%; 3rd Grade - 95.6%; 4th Grade - 94.4%; 5th Grade - 95.4%; 6th Grade - 94%. Overall school attendance percentage is 94.7%. Thank you for emphasizing the importance of your child being at school.
Lunch and Breakfast - Prices for 2022-23 School Year
Here are the prices for school breakfast and lunch for this school year. This year, we return to students paying for their lunches, so it is important to complete the Free and Reduced form. Student Breakfast: $1.50, Student Lunch: $3.00; Visitor Breakfast - $2.25; Visitor Lunch: $4.25. You can pay for your child's lunch and breakfast online at myschoolbucks.com. There is a fee for paying on the myschoolbucks.com website.
