Sport news

Wednesday Sport begins 15 February

Wednesday Sport begins Wednesday 15 February - important payment details below

Welcome back everyone, I hope you all had an enjoyable break and are ready for 2023.

Term 1 Sport will kick off on Wednesday 15 February (Week 3) and run until 5 April. Sports notes were handed out Wednesday and payments can be made online via the Byron Bay High School website.

  • Parents can pay online via our website by clicking on Make a Payment at the top of the homepage
  • If you make an online payment your permission slip MUST be returned the next day with the receipt number on it to finalise processing and secure your spot in the sport.
  • Early payment together with the permission slip secures your child’s spot in the sport. Some sports fill up quickly so early payment will help avoid disappointment.

Please be aware of what sports are available to different year groups, these will change throughout the year so if your year group misses out this term you will have the opportunity later in the year.

Non-paying sports and students who have not selected a sport by Wednesday 3 February will select their sport during allocated class time. Students will be informed of these times.

Students wanting to participate in surfing for sport MUST have a Surf Survival Certificate. This is a Departmental requirement and is not negotiable. This course is run Term 1 and 2 as a sport choice.

Sport is a compulsory part of Byron Bay High School curriculum therefore all students Years 7 to 10 must attend. Medical and other appointments where possible should be made OUTSIDE of sport time. Students who are sick or injured will be catered for at school, they will need to supply a note from home to be documented at school.

Active Kids and Creative Kids vouchers can be used for parkour, trampolining, circus and skating. If you would like to use these then please print your voucher and return with the permission slip and pay the remainder of the invoice online or at the front office. Students with vouchers must give a copy of their voucher to the provider at the venue on their first day.

2023 BBHS Swimming Carnival - Wednesday 8 February 2023

The annual swimming carnival is an exciting start to the year that brings students together from all years to compete in a variety of competitive and novelty events. It is a fun way for students to engage with their peers and teachers in a friendly, but spirited, competition. Races are organised in competitive and non competitive heats so any student wishing to qualify for zone has the opportunity to do so. Below is some information for the carnival.

The carnival will commence at 9am and finish at 2:45pm.

  • Pool Entry is $4.50 per student, if you have a pool pass please bring it along.
  • Regular school buses will drop students at the Pool. Buses from the North will drop off on the way to school. Buses from the South and West will drop students to school as normal. Additional buses will take students to and from the pool at 9.05am from the high school bus bay. Those students who normally walk or ride to school, can also travel on these school buses.
  • From 2:45 pm buses will bring all students back to school so they can meet their normal school bus home.
  • Any students who would need to leave early or remain in town at the end of the carnival MUST have a note signed by parents.
  • Students are to remain at the carnival for the day, please avoid where possible signing students out through the day. If for some reason it is unavoidable a parent MUST come to the pool to collect their child only.
  • Dress up in your house colours and remember to be sun safe (bring a hat, rash vests, shirt, and reapply sunscreen).
  • Fishheads will have food to purchase on the day.
  • An email and program have been sent to all parents in a separate email. The program is a guide and times may change throughout the day.
  • Parent spectators are welcome to come along.

Congratulations to our 2023 House Captains!

Year 12 houses took a vote this week to nominate house captains for 2023. The role of a House Captain is to help organise and plan house events and carnivals, liaise with other senior leaders and staff members, supporting all year levels and acting as a role model for junior students.

We look forward to to working with these fabulous students and watching them grow in this role.
