This New Year we hosted a trip to Joshua Tree for some friends and clients. We were so excited for this trip. I don’t know if its just us, but there is something really special about this national park and the energy it emanates . From the Cholla cactus garden, the vast rock formations, and the endless mystery of Joshua Tree this was a perfect way celebrate our New Year.
The Cholla Garden was a beautiful nature walk. It’s not a strenuous at all. The difficulty of this walk is Chollas themselves. These unique cacti are very sharp and if you’re not careful you can walk right into them (trust me on this one lol). Cholla’s are called the “teddy bear and jumping cactus” because they’re so pretty people get too close and end up leaving with a painful souvenir. We decided to do this walk first because its not a long walk (.2 miles) and its a good place to start your Joshua Tree experience.
My favorite thing to do in Joshua Tree is to CLIMB ROCKS! When you first see these massive boulders just stacked up onto one another, you can’t help but want to climb to the top of them. As a kid I loved climbing and exploring. My inner child was so excited to explore and see how high I could get on these majestic rocks. Over 800 million years ago this national park was underwater. At one point these rocks were mountains but over time with water and wind started to erode and cause these cracks and faults you see today
Since we went in the middle of winter, it was quite chilly. It was around 54 degrees but with the wind chill factor it felt like it was in the low 30’s. We also ran into scattered showers every now and then. Honestly, the storm and clouds added a more dramatic feel to our photos. Visiting Joshua Tree in the winter is vastly different from visiting in the spring/summer. We would highly recommend visiting during spring/fall/winter seasons. The heat is unbearable during the summer, we would not recommend unless you want to get sunburnt and possibly die.
“Climb mountains not so the world can see you but so that you can see the world “
What an amazing trip it was! Even though I’ve been here before, this time was so special for the fact of my friends were able to attend. Joshua Tree will always have a special place in my heart. Here are a few pictures of our adventures in Joshua Tree.
