In LIRA this half term, we have read a wide variety of texts in order to prepare for our SATs.
Once SATs was over, we linked lira to our new literacy unit ‘holes’. We read chapters from the book and sections from the film and made comparisons.
For the first two weeks of the half term we spent a lot of time revisioning all the grammar we had learnt this year. It was wonderful to see just how much we had remembered.
Over the past couple of weeks, we have started our new literacy unit based on the book ‘Holes’!
So far we have learnt and practised a variety of writing techniques: figurative language, expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials.
We will continue with this unit of work after half term.
We have been extremely busy in maths this half term. We have been learning about...
Our topic this half-term has had an art focus!
We have focused on the artWork of Frida Kahlo and explored how she has used surrealism in her work.
In our lessons we have experimented with different mediums including sketching and watercolours. We have learnt all about the different colour types and used these to create our own colour wheel based on the colours Frida Kahlo used in her artwork.
Our focus in PE this half term has been cricket.
We learnt how to hold the cricket ball when performing an over arm bowl. We also learnt how to play a variety of batting shots.
We are extremely proud of the effort and resilience shown by all our year 6 children throughout the year.
The maturity and willingness shown towards the exam week was fantastic. The staff at Mapplewell couldn’t be more proud.
As a treat, we spent a full morning eating ice lollies and playing in the park!
Next half term is where the fun really starts. It will be jam-packed with lots of exciting activities: Y6 v Teachers football match, end of year production, the year 6 leavers assembly and the year 6 leavers party!
We hope that everyone in Class 11 has a well-deserved break!
