BUILDING PERMITS REQUIRED

A common question we receive is, “when do I and don’t I need City approval for a project.” The following items do not require city approval: painting; new toilets, sinks, or appliances; new light switches or outlets; roof repairs; ceiling fans; kitchen cabinets or countertops; and flooring. The following do require city approval: changes to plumbing and electrical lines; fences and walls; new or replacement air conditioners, including “mini split” or “ductless” air conditioners; water heaters, including replacements; new windows and doors; re-roofing; and any work in the public right-of-way. To contact City staff about a proposed project please e-mail planning@templecity.us or (626) 656-7316.
