Mary Jackson A Nasa Engineer

Mary Jackson was a a engineer for NASA. When she first started with NASA, she worked with many other black women as people called "Computers". They were basically the brains behind the brains of NASA.

Mary was born in Hampton VA, on April 9 1921. She always had a love for science, proving it by graduating with a honors degree in high school. One of the classes she took was advanced engineering, supplying her thirst of learning.

In her earlier years, before NASA, she was a girl scout leader, to teach the ¨Youngsters around her city.¨ “We have to do something like this to get them interested in science," she said in an article for the local newspaper

She joined NASA in 1958, working for 34 years a mathematician and aerospace engineer / Computer (Basically the brains behind the brains of NASA) With her two friends, Dorthy Vaughan and Katherine Johnson, as seen above and below.

One of her jobs in NASA was "..the Federal Women’s Program, in the NASA Office of Equal Opportunity Programs, and of the Affirmative Action Program." According to Wikipedia. That had a huge part on her race towards equality, taking the work further after NASA as said earlier.

She was married to Levi Jackson and they had two children. Her son named Levi Jackson Jr. and a daughter, Carolyn Marie Lewis. She won awards, such as the Apollo Group Achievement Award, and being named Langley’s Volunteer of the Year in 1976.

She passed away peacefully in February 11th, 2005 and age 83. She is buried in Bethel AME Church Cemetery, in Hampton Virginia USA. She has many surviving relatives, and you can find them today.

Her love for engineering and NASA lived on after her death. Years after her death they produced Hidden Figures a 2012 book and Hidden Figures a 2016 movie, after her and her friends work. So even though she has passed we will always remember her. The appreciation of her will live on!
