What an exciting and fun packed half term we have had. We started the new term by going on a trip to The Deep. This got us really excited for our Geography topic.
We danced our hearts out at the Valentines disco.
We started our new Rise and Shine Share a Book session which takes place every Thursday morning at 8:30am. Thank you to all of you who have attended so far and I hope to see more of you get the opportunity to come in next half term.
Literacy
This half term we have paid particular attention to our handwriting and sentence writing to ensure our work is neat and so that it can be read by ourselves and others.
We wrote a recount of our trip to The Deep. We gathered the nouns and adjectives we would need for our writing and we started to look at time openers to give our recount structure.
We read the story Peace at Last by Jill Murphy and used this to write a narrative. We enjoying drawing a story map to retell the story first.
Towards the end of the term we started our new literacy topic which is to write a setting description on the candy house from Hansel and Gretel. We have looked at the features of a setting description and gathered the nouns we will need for our writing. We are excited to continue with this when we return after the holidays.
Maths
We have developed our learning and understanding of previously taught topics this half term.
We have recapped doubling and halving a number upto 20. We are feeling much more confident when faced with a multiplication or division question. We know how to use practical resources to help us and we know that the groups need to be the same - fair and equal!
Towards the end of the term we learnt all about position and directions. We know the different turns and that turns can be made in different directions, either clockwise or anti-clockwise. We can describe the position of an object in relation to another object using left, right, above or below. We started to explore directional language and giving these as instructions.
Topic
Our topic this half term had a Geography focus which we explored through ‘The World of Water’. We can name the countries that make up the Uk, the oceans of the world and the continents. We particularly enjoyed listening to the songs that helped us to learn the continents and oceans. We know that there are many uses for the oceans such as water sports, seafood and oil. We can explain the difference between physical features and human features and we used our knowledge to compare two different beaches (Miami Beach and Gower Beach in Wales).
Science
We have continued to explore animals including humans in science this half term. We have looked at the offspring of different animals.
RSHE
Our focus this half term has relationships which we have explored through looking at families and friends. We know that not all families look the same but at the heart of all families is love. We have discussed the qualities of a friend and we decided which of these qualities we had and picked two which we thought we could be be better at. We have talked about the feeling of loneliness and what we can do if we feel lonely or what we could do if we see someone who may be feeling lonely. We are aware that everyone is different and that is ok, the story of Simon the Sock really helped us to understand that we don’t have to be like someone else on the outside or the inside.
RE
Our key question in RE this half term has been, ‘why are some times special?” We have talked about different religious festivals and celebrations and explored how they are celebrated. We really enjoyed learning about the Muslim festival of Ramadan and Eid al-fitr.
PE
This half term we have developed our gymnastic skills in PE lessons. We have enjoyed playing games and getting into different positions as well as using the equipment to develop our balancing technique.
