Welcome, Dustdevil! ⬇️ Scroll Down ⬇️

Monday, July 18, 2022

Dear University community,

  • As you make your way in this summer’s heat, please stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities to early morning and late evening. The Texas energy grid continues to be challenged, so help do your part by conserving energy on and off-campus. Stay cool!
  • Our next Dusty Camp is July 21 - 22. Let’s welcome everyone with a Dustdevil smile as they navigate their new shared home. Camps continue through July and August.
  • You might say that TAMIU graduates are making some beautiful music! That would be students earning the popular Bachelor of Music Education degree, of course. Since 2013, TAMIU’s College of Arts and Sciences, department of Fine and Performing Arts has prepared 38 graduates for careers as music educators. You’ll find them here in Laredo and across the state. Congratulations and thanks for the music.
  • Know someone who hasn’t been able to finish their degree because of financial issues? Our Comeback Programs are helping resuming students to do just that. Families and friends of students can learn all about the #Comeback: Undergraduate Programs for Resuming Students with a special Zoom Comeback Information Session Wednesday, July 20. Find out more here or email outreach@tamiu.edu for more
  • Registration for Fall classes is ongoing. Use our new TAMIU Fund$Finder, a search tool that helps students find scholarships on and off-campus is available. Details are available at go.tamiu.edu/fundSfinder
  • The threat of COVID-19 continues here and across our State. Please continue your use of recommended face coverings/masks, in addition to practicing rigorous hand-washing. Find out more about on-campus testing.

Go Dustdevils!

TAMIU Music Dept. Prepares Students for Careers as Educators, Touts Steady Job Placement

Since 2013, TAMIU's College of Arts and Sciences, department of Fine and Performing Arts has prepared 38 graduates for careers as music educators. To date, these graduates are now teaching in schools across the state, including Laredo and other cities like Eagle Pass, Humble, Irving, San Antonio, Victoria, and Zapata.

"Over the past five years, more students are coming into the Bachelor of Music Education degree than the Bachelor of Music Performance program. This appears to be a result of our very high percentage of job placements with our graduates. We had TAMIU music students placed in six Laredo schools just this summer, at all levels. We now have TAMIU music alums in six of the seven high schools, plus the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts. Over 75% of our students are pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education degree."

- Dr. James Moyer, chair of the department of Fine and Performing Arts and associate professor of Music
