Is it real? Is it true? There is a strong bind between photography and philosophy. Both deal with questions concerning reality, truth, perception, and sense. Can we trust our eyes?
In photography, people often talk about the decisive moment. Your finger presses the shutter button, you catch the reality of a certain moment, deep-freeze it, keep it for good. Hence, a photo is seen as “real” or “true”. Watching old photos (like the ones you can find in an old, dust-covered shoebox in the attic of your grandma’s house) is like diving into the past. We take it for granted that we catch a glimpse of the “real” past.
With our series “The Frame” we would like to invite you to question your way of perceiving pictures. It tries to blur our idea of past and present, of reality and truth. By using a real wooden frame we open a window to another world.
