1. EDUCATE & ORGANIZE
The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Winner ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) is a broad, inclusive campaign, focused on mobilizing civil society around the world to support the specific objective of prohibiting and eliminating nuclear weapons. ICAN is a coalition of non-governmental organizations in one hundred countries promoting adherence to and implementation of the United Nations nuclear weapon ban treaty. You can use their website for a wide range of resources.
In addition to ICAN, you can use these resources to spread the information: Education Kit; Common Misconceptions; Let’s Be Realists; Treaties.
Organize events on campus. Make them informational seminars and film/documentary screenings. Know your institution’s take on the matter and demand divestment from harmful policies through peaceful advocacy. Open a nuclear disarmament club to engage further with your peers and institution. Call it “Students Against Nukes” or come up with a more creative title!
Join Reverse the Trend: Save Our People, Save Our Planet. To address the environmental catastrophe of nuclear weapons, we are creating a global youth network where youth will engage with their respective communities and in UN advocacy. As part of this project, we are forming partnerships with local youth networks and encouraging youth activists to co-produce a docuseries with us. 2. DIVESTMENT
Call your banks/financial institutions and demand transparency about their resource spending. Boycott brands/corporations that fund nuclear arms technology. Call them out! Curious which institutions are complicit? Find out here: Dirty Dozen and Don’t Bank on the Bomb.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA
