Growing the African Craft Beer Industry

Aimed at commercial craft brewers, home brewers and beer enthusiasts. The CBP (Craft Brewers Powwow) is for beer lovers from all over Africa.

The Craft Brewers Powwow returned after a long break due to covid-19. The three-day conference kicked off from the 13th-15th May 2022 with amazing exhibitions, great beer and plenty of fun! Attendees had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of participating in a Sensory Training practical session with Cara Simpson from Aroxa™, UK and a tasting session on brewing with Rye and Hop extracts with Brian 'Spike' Buckowski from Terrapin Brewing Co, USA.

The weekend featured two competitions and beer awards – the Home Brewers Competition and the most anticipated African Beer Cup Awards, with the main awards being the Best Beer in Africa award and the African Celebration Award ( sponsored by BASA ).

The Home Brewers Competition had 49 entries this year which is the most we have ever judged for this competition. The enthusiasm and growth in the home brewers category was great to see. The feedback from the judges was that the standard of beers entered has also grown and there were some very close scores.

A group of experienced qualified BJCP judges coupled with non BJCP members were on the judging panels. The judging took place over 2 days where eventually the Best of Show and 2nd and 3rd places were decided. Prizes included equipment and ingredients sponsored by bevPLUS, Yakima chief & Micromatic. However the most anticipated prize was definitely the winner of the “Best of Show” Award , winning a 60L Demacraft Brewing System! - sponsored by Bevplus.
