Italy Tour: Day 8 Beach day in Salerno

Platform and trampoline in the Tyrrhenian Sea

Beach Day!

By Emily White

Day 8 was a day that we have all been looking forward during the entire trip! It was our beach day!!! Our hotel rooms on the Amalfi Coast all had balconies overlooking an amazing view of the coast, so we were excited to finally enjoy a slower paced day at the beach!

Driving down winding small roads on our bus down a mountain took us almost two hours to get to the beach of Salerno. Once we finally hit the coast, we all went and grabbed some lunch. Most of us enjoyed hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and kabobs which is a lot of the food that we have missed eating in the US.

After lunch, we all headed to the beach. If you think the white sand beaches at home are hot to walk on, you should try walking on black sanded beaches. The volcanic origins making the sand black and grainier. The sun collecting on the black sand made it HOT and everyone ran pretty fast to get to the water. Luckily, we chose the perfect spot on the beach where in the water there was a little floating platform attached to a trampoline. Almost the entire team spent the whole day out there either soaking in the sun or taking turns jumping off the dock. Some also were playing mermaids and finding cool rocks underwater… yes, we still play mermaids in college.

After lots of sun.. and a lot of people very sunburnt.. we all got dressed and walked down the road to get some much needed ice cream. Then, we headed back to the bus and made our way back up the mountain to our hotel!

Once back at the hotel we were able to take the time to get dressed up for dinner. We had a quick photoshoot outside of the hotel and then took a short walk down the road to the restaurant, Leonardo.

We enjoyed another three course meal of two types of pasta and a dessert. We were given the option of the house wine in either red or white. Here Sarah has learned that she hates wine and has claimed that “Italy has ruined wine for her.” After another full meal we made our way back to our hotel.

Like I said before, our hotel has balconies connecting to each of our rooms. One of my favorite parts of this trip has been going out there after our busy days of activities and just hanging out with the girls. Our room was right next to Whitney and Corey’s, and we especially loved visiting with them. The atmosphere of the coast being right behind us and having beautiful weather just made each night so special. It is fair to say that our beach day was one of the best days of our trip!! It was a perfect day that allowed us to relax and just have fun with each other.
