Somerset County Council commissioned Futures for Somerset to deliver a turn-key production kitchen facility to provide Universal Free School Meals to primary schools across the county. Futures for Somerset delivered a specialist prefabricated commercial kitchen solution with PKL and contracted for enabling works with RG Spiller. The kitchen was successfully completed in January 2015 and now services a large number of primary schools in Somerset

Futures for Somerset provided Feasibility, Project Management and Employer’s Agent services to this project. Our early engagement with the project helped to identify a suitable site and assist the Council in find a way to deliver on an accelerated timescale to ensure that their statutory responsibilities could be met as soon as possible.

Futures for Somerset also assisted Somerset County Council in procuring a catering contract with BAM FM to cover the provision of meals into Somerset schools from the Central Production Kitchen.

The project cost in the region of £1 million and was delivered in 16 weeks on site from the date of planning permission. This project is a good example of the benefits that partnering can bring, enabling challenging targets to be achieved through the strength of existing relationships and contracts
