Adams Update August 26, 2022

No School Next Friday, September 2 - Monday, September 5

Remember that next week is a short week, with school Monday through Thursday. There is no school next Friday, September 2, or Monday, September 5. Enjoy the long Labor Day weekend!

Parking Lot Procedures--Please Review!

In addition to students walking to school, we have buses and several daycare vans transporting students to and from Adams. Please note that the bus lane in our lot enables our buses to park safely to pick up students. If you need to enter the parking lot during arrival and dismissal times, please help ensure our student's safety by adhering to the parking lot safety rules. Traffic flow is counterclockwise through the parking lot, enter and exit using the entrance driveway.

  • Move your car forward in the drop-off/pickup zone to maximize curb usage. Do not leave your car unattended along the curb.
  • When dropped off, students should be ready to exit the car quickly and always exit curbside.
  • Pick up students at the curb. If you meet them outside the building, you must park your car in the spaces provided and walk your child to the car.
  • Students are not allowed to cross the parking lot unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Exit the parking lot by using the entrance driveway. Only buses will exit by the traffic light.

Please pass these safety rules to anyone (daycare providers, relatives, etc.) who may drive your children to and from school.

New Adams Staff: SEL Coordinator Zoe Ferguson

Zoe Ferguson joins us this year as our new Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator. Mrs. Ferguson, who recently taught grades 3 - 5, is also a former Adams Atom herself! She is an SVSU graduate and enjoys spending time reading, playing with her cat, and traveling with her husband, who is a 3rd grade teacher. As SEL Coordinator, Mrs. Ferguson will be working with staff to help lead mindfulness lessons, implement trauma-informed practices, and more. Social-Emotional learning focuses on helping children think about how they are thinking and feeling, giving them skills to cope and grow as they manage their emotions, and teaching them to work well with others. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Ferguson to the Adams team!

5th grade Band, Orchestra, and Choir

Our 5th grade classes are learning about their opportunity to participate in Band, Orchestra, and Choir! Please talk with your child about what instrument or experience they may prefer, and encourage them to sign up if they would like. Classes will be before or after school for Band and Orchestra, and during lunch for Choir. This is an excellent opportunity to begin playing an instrument and to start a lifetime of music.

Please Return Backpack Buddies Forms to Mrs. Florey

We are very grateful for the Backpack Buddies program, as it allows students the opportunity to receive a backpack full of food for the weekend, throughout the school year. This free program serves students throughout Midland County. If you are interested, please return the form to your child's classroom teacher, or directly to Adams teacher Mrs. Florey. Thank you to all of the volunteers and assistants who make this worthy program happen.

Popcorn Day & Atoms Spirit Day -- Thursday, September 1

Next Thursday is our first Popcorn Day of the school year! Everyone looks forward to this fun event. The Adams PTO sponsors this activity/fundraiser. Bags of popcorn are 50c each, and money is due to your child's classroom teacher by next Tuesday. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this event, and for making all of that popcorn!

First POPCORN DAY for the 2022-23 School Year!

  • We are happy to welcome back monthly Popcorn Days at Adams starting Thursday, Sept. 1
  • We are also encouraging students to wear Adams Clothes on this day - and if you do not have any Adams spirit wear yet, you can wear anything Adams Blue! PTO will be providing a cold treat to the class with the highest percentage of students in Adams gear!

This afternoon everyone seems a little tired, but happy. Remember to reach out to your child's teacher with questions and updates about how your child is doing. Have a good weekend, and we look forward to seeing you next week!
