What is a monument?
A monument is to show other cities that they are proud.
It shows the world that they have something that signifies them as a city. It is usually made to commemorate someone or some thing that happened.
For example the Statue of Liberty was made because of an anti-slave activist Edouard de Laboulaye, he wanted the statue to look like this because he thought it looked like it was showing Liberty. It was also signifying the independence and friendship with France.
Our monument the Australian war memorial, is unique to us because it has a vast National Collection of relics, official and private records, art, photographs and films from the wars and conflicts. It is there to commemorate the suffering and the sacrifice of what our soldiers had to go through in war.
It commemorates the deaths of 102,000 men and women dead and alive. The purpose of our monument is to be a tourist attraction and a place of remembrance.
