Week 5 Term 3a

What a busy week Year 4 have had! We went on a fabulous trip this week to The River Derwant. Year 4 took part in kick sampling to try and find as many different invertebrates as possible to see if the river was healthy. The good news is, it is!!

The rain stayed away on Wednesday afternoon so that we could take part in the Water Aid challenge! We managed to move 10 litres across 50 m in 13.36 minutes and raised £19!

At the end we were only left with 2 litres, even though we tried to save every drop! The water was also quite dirty from the sand and pipes. We decided it would be similar in Ethiopia so we tried to filter it. We used filter paper and cotton material to see if that helped. We decided did filter some of the dirt and leaves, but we still couldn’t drink it because of all the germs that would still be inside.

In Mantle we found out that the Ethiopian Government were considering building a dam on the White Nile and wanted our help to see if they should build it or not. We looked at lots of reasons for and against, from different people in the region and ordered them by importance.

We then had a meeting with the Representatives from the Ethiopian Government to give our opinions.

After much debate, the government decided to build the dam as it would provide the country with much needed money and electricity.

We had a brilliant visit from the Islamic Diversity centre this week to tell us all about Islam and what is means to be Muslim. We learnt about the 5 pillars of Islam and both classes asked lots of thoughtful questions.

In English we completed our Graphic Novels following a raindrop through the water cycle. Brilliant use of a range of sentence types and action words Year 4, as well as some beautiful artwork!

To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee we came to school in red, white and blue and discussed what the Jubilee meant. We made some beautiful collages of the queen using her portrait at the beginning of her reign and now.

Happy birthday to our birthday girl and congratulations to our star of the week and Golden Book superstars! 🌟🌟🌟

Have a fantastic half term Year 4! Well done for working so hard this term, see you in 2 weeks ready for our class assembly! 🌟
