Sharing a meal!

Students in Mrs. Meaden’s Gr. 1 class were invited to share breakfast with the students in Mrs. Desormeau and Ms. Antila’s class recently. On the menu were eggs, bacon and pancakes! The first meal of the day fuels the body and mind and gets it set for learning to take place. Special thanks to Bussiere’s for donating the yummy bacon!

What a great way to start the day!

Students vs. Teachers volleyball game!

After a sports filled day, the Gr. 8 students took on the teachers in what’s come to be an annual contest! It was a competitive game this year but the teachers came out on top once again. Maybe next year Gr. 8’s...

Some music is timeless! Check out the excitement level of the game in this video!

Bullying intervention and awareness week

Daily announcements and student activities were a big part of this year's Bullying Awareness and Intervention Week. At school, we encouraged students to #ChooseKind by focusing on kindness rather than bullying. One of the theme days had students wearing different socks as we encouraged them to imagine what it was like to be in someone else's shoes for a day. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone was simply kind to one another!

Pop tabs!!!

Our jar is almost full! Not long after this picture was taken, this jar seemed to be filled overnight. Keep those pop tabs coming. Mme. Sylvestre collects these tabs and donates them to the March of Dimes.

During the month of November, the Eco-Explorations Outdoor Program worked together to build shelters and learned about temperature with the arrival of snow.

With that brought their first snowshoeing experience where they walked to a natural spring. Mr. Chum also visited the class to show the students how to stretch a beaver pelt after the kids had made a craft replica of the same thing last month.

What a shelter!
What a beautiful environment to be learning!

Social studies projects

Students in Mrs. Belisle’s Gr. 5 class built historical Indigenous villages from different regions in Canada. Pictured below are the proud students displaying their projects. Well done!

Dream catchers

After reading about dreams and nightmares, the Gr. 6/7 class welcomed Summer Rickard and Nadeen Carey from the Ininew Friendship Centre and Mr. Desmond O’Connor, Indigenous Student Advisor, to lead a workshop on dream catchers. Students learned that good drams find their way through the web and descend through the feathers to the dreamer. Bad dreams, however, get confused and cannot find their way through the web and get trapped there until the sun rises and makes them evaporate. This is why dream catchers are often hung near the window. During the workshop, students enjoyed making beautiful dream catchers.

Thank you Summer, Nadeem and Desmond!

Remembrance Day

Our school remembered the sacrifice of soldiers and peacekeepers through various activities in the classroom and for the Gr. 3-8 students, an assembly at the high school. As Canadians, we are reminded that we are very fortunate to live in a country free from wars on our home soil and also of the role that we play abroad as a peace-keeping nation.

learning to regroup

Students in Mrs. Belisle's Gr. 5 Math class often use math tools to help them learn various concepts. In a recent re-grouping Math lesson, students used base ten blocks to understand what happens to the numbers when subtracting. This type of learning reflects the shift in Math from the Math class you likely attended where you learned the steps but not the "why" behind what you are doing. Please watch the video where a student explains his reasoning and thinking!

Firefighter visit!

Students in Mme. Penney and Mme. Charron's class welcomed a real firefighter to their classroom to learn about fire safety and the types of equipment that firefighters use in their job. As you can see, the students were very excited to have this special guest!

learning through music and movement

Mme. Penney and Mme. Charron often use music and movement when immersing their student in the French language. One of their students was recently away for an extended time and they shared videos of their class learning, through their class social media account,so that this student would be able to access the lesson from wherever she was! All the parent needed was an internet connection to keep the learning happening.

The staff and students of Cochrane Public School

wish you the happiest of holidays.

Enjoy this time with family and friends.
